Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (29 September 1547 (assumed) – 22 April 1616) was an Early Modern Spanish writer widely regarded as the greatest writer in the Spanish language and one of the world's pre-eminent novelists. He is best known for his novel Don Quixote, a work considered as the first modern novel. The novel has been labelled by many well-known authors as the “best book of all time” and the "best and most central work in world literature".

The Monument to Miguel de Cervantes is an instance of public art located in Madrid, Spain. Erected on the centre of the Plaza de España, it is dedicated to Miguel de Cervantes, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the Spanish language. The monument incorporates a stone monolith with several statues (including Cervantes') and a detached bronze sculptural group representing Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.

The painting "Encounter of the Dukes by Don Quixote" (Spanish: "Encuentro de Don Quijote con los Duques") by Luis Menéndez Pidal, 1892, depicts the Duke and Duchess encounter Don Quixote and Sancho and invite them to they palace for amusement and practical jokes.
