50 Pounds - Elizabeth II Alan Turing; Polymer

Alan Turing was announced as the face of the polymer £50 note on 15th July 2019, which was first printed in 2020.

The last £50 banknotes featuring the image of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II were printed in April 2022, with the final series bearing the prefix 'AE80'

The banknote is either printed on Guardian™-Substrat or Safeguard®-Substrat. By looking carefully at the ink around the transparent window one can determine on which polymer substrate the note was printed. On Guardian the ink has spots, on Safeguard none.

Key Security Features:

Hologram Text changes between 'Fifty' and 'Pounds' as the note is titled from side to side;

See through windows Metallic image to main window is gold and green to the front and silver on the back. There is a second, smaller window in the bottom corner of the note.

Within the two gold foil squares on the front of the note, the image changes between '50' and a '£' symbol when the note is tilted. 

Other Security Features:
Queen's portrait A portrait of the Queen is printed on the window with '£50 Bank of England’ printed twice around the edge;

Silver foil patch A silver foil patch contains a 3D image of the coronation crown;
Red foil patch A metallic, red foil patch contains the letters 'AT';

Feel of polymer and raised print The note is printed on polymer, which is a thin and flexible plastic material. On the front of the note, you can feel raised print;

Print quality The printed lines and colours on the note are sharp, clear and free from smudges or blurred edges;

Ultraviolet number Under a good quality ultraviolet light, the number '50' appears in bright red and yellow on the front of the note.
