Just curious, who is Numista, why can't we change pictures credited to him? Even when pictures I have are several grades higher?
Those should be old pictures of Xavier but I don't know of an official policy to not be able to change them.
The only thing I know is that we should keep good quality pictures from the community even when a better one from some 3rd party is available (as to say to keep it in the family).
I remembered this topic from five years ago ...

We discuss futilities like changing our nearly perfect layout but our biggest feature and stronghold is our catalog which we treat step-motherly. In stead of using the best possible pictures we give priority to pictures of own members, "to keep it in the family". But that's just the problem. We refuse to replace pictures of own members for better pictures, so those worse pictures stay in our catalog for decades, even when those members are already long gone.
Of course in case of equal quality pictures we should give priority to pictures of our own members.
Hi
I am still waiting for a page upgrade where anyone (with referees approval or some other method) can launch a public request for better intel, as well as having a public list of missing data, for anyone having five mikes time, to add another stone to the castle...
I would stand with the family, since some approvals by 3rd person can probably also be revoked.

@Prof

I said keep good pictures not bad ones also I used there word should which in my understanding isn't an absolutism8) also the case Benjamin there would be no problem to upgrade.
As far as I know, Xavier did not mind changing his pictures in the past. Still, user pictures are almost always prefered to the authorized sites. :wiz:

I really don't understand why we don't go for the best pictures. I understand the loyalty relative to our members but look at the turnover in our membership. A lot of mediocre pictures from earlier members stay here because of that loyalty principle while those members are already long gone. A lot of my pictures are here on Numista but I don't have any problem at all when they are replaced by better ones, also when these pictures come from authorized sites.
I put a lot of time and effort in improving our catalog but when a referee refuses to accept better pictures because the original (worse) pictures are from a member, I stop making change requests for that particular country.

Time for "terms of user participation" services update. The user-customer can also be "sometimes" right.

Well; when you have outstanding picture from auction and horrible picture from user, it can surely be replaced.

User pictures are preffered just because sites can recall their approval.
