I found myself scrolling through numista when I should be sleeping. Now my eyes hurt. I can't find dark mode, unless I'm blind. Is it there? If it's not, can it be added?
I don't think there is dark mode already, and I agree it should be added.
You mean like a night mode, where the white background turns black, and all text turns white?

Yes
I wonder how that would work with all the ads. It sure woukd be a nice feature for an app though, since it's not really necessary when using the computer.
My eyes are pleading for night mode. x.
I was thinking about submitting this a while back. I have it on everything else I use, why not Numista?
I agree

Night is the best. I use it as a default for every thing. It also helps preserve laptop battery life by a few minutes.
Agree. But first we need to tackle the background of the coins otherwise there'll be still "whites" around the screen.

Two thumbs up for dark mode. 👍

Edit: Actually this inspired me to change numista view myself. A raw version of dark theme, still a lot more to change 😁

You can always turn your phone to “sleep mode”. Then everything will be like “dark mode”.

Will this ever be implemented?

Something like that would be a great improvement.

I use Sleep mode on my phone. Works perfect. But all pictures are b/w though.

LCW1991Agree. But first we need to tackle the background of the coins otherwise there'll be still "whites" around the screen.

The guidelines currently say jpeg with a white background, and jpeg doesn't support a transparent background.

(Anyone have a magic way to say “treat white as transparent?” in HTML pages. That could be strange for images with white pixels internally, but it wouldn't be as glaring as white corners.)

The “obvious” choice would be to switch formats and have a tool to automatically convert white on the outside to transparent for existing and new images, but I have no idea how much work that would be.

Can be added a frame, always white, around the object images.

For example, now Numista is displayed just like that (Firefox 114.0; extension Dark Mode):

With a frame around the object images:

CSS style

.photo_avers, .photo_revers {
    border: 2px outset black;
    padding: 5px;
    background-color: white;
}

What about choosing your own background colours?

Both black & white backgrounds can hurt peoples' vision, especially when their vision is poor.

Aidan.

So many things to be improved in the process of making a swap in Numista and no answers to the posts talking about this.

Meanwhile, 52 votes for making a dark mode  ;(

Two settings can be added:

  • Light/Dark mode (set background, text and buttons color),
  • Background color (modify the default color in the mode).

Yes, I think a dark mode will be great. I don’t think the white background for coins will be too bad. I use dark mode when using wikipedia, and the white background never gave me problems. I think use of other colors other than just black is a great idea too. Wikipedia for example also allows you to choose other colors, and I don’t think the white background looks bad on any of the other colors. I really think this feature will help people ease their eye discomfort when using this website.

Black & white backgrounds hurt my eyes - so we should have a choice for colours.

I agree sometimes I would be adding coins to my collection late at night and I don't want to strain my eyes in the process, also like what BCNumismatics mentioned, having other colours available  such as certain pastel colours, would help those with dyslexia and/or poor eyesight.

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.

I think there are more important things to be improved at the website, as adding the values given by Numista to the items in the swap. This has been mentioned many times here and has never received an anwer from any of the managers here ;(
