I don't know how to implement it, but it would be nice to have a measure to prevent excessive quotations in forum posts: for example, someone puts a long interesting post with photos of ten coins, and then another user hits "reply," thereby quoting the post in full, and writes a single word such as "cool" in order to answer. Now, in principle there is nothing wrong happening, but the content gets duplicated and forum users have to scroll down a much longer thread.

P.S.: maybe we could have a "like" button for each individual post? That's just a suggestion.

I think this would be a great improvement (to eliminate excessive re-quoting).

It would be nice if the quote function was enabled once and if it was used again- a message such as "this member has already been quoted- Please try another way to express a connection with this member's statement"

My biggest pet peeve are those quotequotequotequotequotes especially in very slow going threads.
Yes, those lazy smartphone users say it is too much of a hassle to edit the quotes to the relevant part so maybe there could also be an improvement?
But the liking option doesn't sound bad either.

The problem is not a particular member being quoted more than once. The problem is too many times the whole post is quoted while the reaction is only about a small part of the entire post. And especially the "quotequotequotequotequotes" as Idolenz calls them are very annoying.
On a different professional forum - there is a like button with a tick symbol. A report post button with a red exclamation mark in a small box.
There is no facility to hit reply and quote the full post.
The other option is to remove the quote function totally
or
when I hit reply the only thing that gets quoted is the original posters name.
Or why not just making it like a tree. Yes, of course we should be able to quote each other, but there could be a seperate "Reply" button on each message in a thread, so instead of "quotequotequotequotequotes", there could be an additional, sub-branch, where pecific discustions about that specific idea is discussed, and then there's a regular Reply button, as it is now, so reply in the main thread.

The reason for the "quotequotequotequotequotes" is often to reply a specific member in an active thread, so why not make a sub-thread to make a specific reply. This threads then has a "Close" and "Open" button, so if you're not interested in the seperate debate where rabbits should be allowed on coins or not, but mainly what to focus on the meain questions is animals in general should be allowed on coins, one simply don't have to open the sub-thread and dive into that discussion as well.
ngdawa - you have explained this well. This function exists in my professional group
