Hello everyone,
when i was on the my coins page with a map showing the countries from which you own coins. Morocco's map is shown incorrectly, missing its southern part (Moroccan sahara) cut from it. The sahara is not a seperate country and doesn't have its own coins. It's part of Morocco. Just thought i give you this heads-up!
Hello, as you can see in the following link, Western Sahara ("República Árabe Saharaui Democrática" or Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic) has issued coins and, in addition, it is a disputed territory with limited international recognition, so I believe, in my honest opinion, that it would not be appropriate to make the modification of the map that you propose.

As you may know, different governments of different countries have different world maps. This map is not perfect, but it is impossible to please everyone for Numista.
Under Numista's classification, Western Sahara falls under "Modern states with limited recognition" (Abkhazia, Artsakh, Somaliland, South Ossetia, Taiwan, Transnistria & Western Sahara). If Kosovo & Modern Palestine issued coins, it would be there as well.

I hope it helps.
Yes different governments do have different world maps but which one does Numista adopt ? Numista world map should show territories that do issue coins and banknotes. That being said, western sahara does not issue its own monet and therefore should be removed from our Numista map.

I suppose you're from a country that doesn't recognise Western Sahara as a state? This is not the place to make political statements. There are coins from Western Sahara (see https://en.numista.com/catalogue/sahara_occidental-1.html), so it's got a place on the map. It's not going to be changed, deal with it.

I personally don't know what map authority Numista follows. I am interested to know it myself.
And my guess, Western Sahara will not be removed from the Numista map. It may seem to be unfair from the point of view of the countries that recognize Moroccan sovereignty over it. But it is fair from the point of view that do recognize it. And these are the modern world of politics these days.

Western Sahara did issue circulating and non-circulating coins. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index.php?

Exactly, what map authority is it ???????? and this has nothing to do with politics. UN has a map for our current world. Also, for them to issue coins doesn't mean immediat right to be on the map. We have Ottoman empire coins here but the map doesn't show the borders of it. Same goes on the rest. So who is in charge here at Numista ????????

Multiple maps exist from the UN. There is no seperate UN member state from that territory. The territory is Morocco's and it is the only UN member state from "that part of the world"!

I haven't found a map from the UN that shows Western Sahara to be a part of Morocco.
Try to understand me correctly, I am not trying to argue with you about political issues here. But when looking into such territory disputes, we need to see what some international institutes that have authority say. UN, in my opinion, is one of them. I and many people would agree with the UN's position here.

Exactly and there is no such western saraha country within the UN! Numista map needs changing!

I have never said that Western Sahara is a UN member (though it is a fully recognized African Union member).
What I was showing was that UN on its official site shows a map of this part of the world that is identical to Numista's. Thus, Numista should not and will not be changed just because of the request of a user.
Quote: "ArabianPrince"Keep them to yourself. Thanks!
Sorry, but that's not how a forum works, everyone here gets to voice their opinion. It's funny though, when I look up Morocco on the World Press Freedom Index, they also have a line between Morocco and Western Sahara! Have a look at https://rsf.org/en/morocco-western-sahara.
Hello,
I am the person in charge here. Numista intends to list all the coins of the world, independently of whether their issuing state is recognized or not or by whom. I try to update the map based on international consensus. Many international sources, including the United Nations (see https://www.un.org/geospatial/mapsgeo/webservices, thank you iiruig), draw a border between Morocco and the Western Sahara, so I'll keep it for the Numista map.
Status changed to Rejected(Xavier, 26 Nis 2021, 10:43)
"Western Sahara is on the United Nations list of Non-Self-Governing Territories. The UN has been involved since 1988 in trying to find a solution to the conflict through self-determination. In 1988, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Polisario Front agreed to settle the dispute through a referendum under the auspices of the UN that would allow the people of Western Sahara to choose between independence or integration with Morocco. In 1991, the parties agreed upon the Settlement Plan, contingent on the referendum being held the following year, but due to disputes over voter qualification, the vote was not held. In the following years, the UN argued for negotiations between Morocco and the Polisario Front to resolve the deadlock, culminating in the Manhasset negotiations in 2007–2008. As of 2020, the mandate for MINURSO (United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara) has been extended 47 times and it maintains its presence in the country, but has yet to fulfill its mission by organizing a referendum."

Finally Xavier! I don't care if it's kept or not. Glad SOMEONE from Numista communicates with its members. Thanks!

Are you the Numista spokesperson ?
Let me remind you how you started this thread: "Hello everyone".
