I just find bargains on eBay, usually look for mis-spelled items and people who don't know what they are selling. I recently bought a bikanir state 1/4 Anna with queen Victoria on which is pretty scarce for £4 delivered from India. I have too many buys of around £2 that are worth more. to mention but one that sticks out recently is my 2 quartos from Gibraltar in vf for 1.59 delivered. he !  <:D
0.0 that sound nice... so there are trustable ebay sellers  ;)  :P

I got one of these

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces24515.html

for NZ$10 (about US$8 or 5 british pounds). It's a nice piece, they only minted 15,000 of them and gave them to the veterans of the battle of Waterloo. Bullion value alone is twice what I paid for it and the catalogue value is around 6-8 times what I paid for it.

I also picked up one of these

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces10411.html

in a 1kg bag of coins from the local dealer; it was one coin that he had missed when he was sorting through a big lot and I managed to profit from it.

Most recently I got one of these

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces10411.html

in VF condition, catalogue value in that condition is US$325. I picked it up for NZ$20 (US$16)

Just curious were the two bottom links supposed to be the same?
Whoops no, forgot to hit Ctrl C so just posted the previous link, it's actually this coin

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces277.html

My copy is better than the pic on the site; do you know if I can I change it for pictures of my coin?

Usually if they are copyrighted Numista pictures they are kept, so no modifications are usually accepted. But, why not post the pictures here and team members can have a look at the coin image and decide for themselves!
here's the pics

These are certainly better images! I wonder if they could be used?

Since the existing image is attributed to Numista, I believe that means it's from the boss's own collection and only he could approve such a substitution - am I right? Think carefully before you answer Ben, in case it's your 1,000th post :8D

Here's a lot I just received in the mail. At first glance it looks worthless.... take a closer look on the right hand side.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/330784146915?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

I had already bought a few lots from the same guy so the postage was free, not too shabby for $2.36 eh?

Here's another one I won today, mostly junk coins but check out the Panamanian coin of the bottom right.

Unfortunately someone else spotted it as well so it attracted a last minute bid, otherwise I would have had the entire lot for $11.00 plus shipping. Guess you can't win them all.

P.S Congratulations Ben!

Phil, I don't really know what's special about the British coin. But that Balboa coin is great, I have always wanted a big one like that. Also the Australian coin is nice, and what is the Max Planck coin in the top middle?
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins

The Max Plank is a Federal German 2 Deutchmark. The UK coin is a 1952 6d, the key date in the series which turned out to be uncirculated, or very, very close. NGC lists it at $95 in MS60.

I really like the Panama Balboa coins, I have a few... almost a collection but they are all 1/4 or 1/10 Balboa. This is my first large denomination.

Yes, I see that there are only 1,000,000 minted rather than 40,000,000, its listed as rare, you could sell it as ULTRA RARE L@@K.
Or we could  impose the Universal Rarity Scale, https://en.numista.com/forum/topic10957.html

Funny you should mention it.... I'm reviewing my collection - thinning out the duplicates to sell in bulk and adding a few coins to swap and I just added my first genuinely rare coin.

1879A mintage of 380,000. Just scrapes into the scale at URS 20.

I have gotten 2 large lots. The first one from a dealer at a coin show. I bought 10 boxes, 9x2x2, of world coins for about $200, so about 20¢ each. There were many duplicates, but it was a great start for my newly resurrected collection.
But, the greatest large lot I ever got was 3 pounds of world coins from David @ Redsmithstudios, here in Numista, for just a few coins from my collection. They were all fine+, few duplicates and from scores of countries. I have spent countless happy hours putting them in holders and cataloging them.

Some collectors go for quantity while others go for quality.

I'm happy either way.
If I buy a big lot and I get 1 really nice silver coin I'm happy.
If I buy a big lot and I get a whole lot of silver coins I'm happy.
If I buy a big lot and it's all pennies, cents and miscellaneous stuff I'm  ;(
The nearest thing to a lot I have bought so far is this...
eBay number:
110946074449

7 coins from Africa

4 south Africa pennies (yeah wow who hasn't got them lol )
East Africa shilling probably worth the price alone. A Rhodesia shilling and what I think is a sixpence :)
