Hello, i hope you are well.

I may have had a lapse in concentration when performing one of my late night/early morning coin searches for a bargain coin on the well known auction site.

Im new to this hobby. Maybe I was tired and didnt do my homework before purchasing :-(

I bought a George i 1724 half penny for £15.
**When i received coin today i noticed it was darker in colour than the similar coins i found when googling.

**When flipping face over to back, the back is also upside down.

**The coin also feels very slightly waxy although i put this down to cleaning?

**The coin appears to have no visible scratches which is peculiar for a coin minted in 1724 (again,i should have thought of this before purchase).

--Is this a genuine coin? I almost want to scratch its surface but i then worry if i could return the coin.--

To make matters worse i also bought a Charles II 1674 farthing for £22 (thats a lot of money for me as i lost my job to cov!d) from the same seller.

Im on my 2nd course of antibiotics for a sinus + tooth infection and so have been bed ridden for several days as I have felt really unwell.
I must have let my guard down.

Thank you so much for reading my post. I really appreciate your time.

kind regards,
Teddy
I find it hard hard to believe that someone would counterfeit such a low value low grade coin, but I suggest you compare the 1724 halfpenny to the one on this site and the one I linked below. I don't like the look of the 4, the first N in BRITANNIA, or the odd raised material just after the A in BRITANNIA (above where the dot should be).

Thanks for your feedback. I do not have a trained eye as im just starting out.

Is the fact that the back is upside down when flipped anything to worry about?
the other coin has that same issue.

Teddy
Your two coins are on these pages:

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces12907.html

To me it looks like they have been aggressively chemically cleaned and then artificially aged. The waxy feel could be exactly that, a coating to prevent corrosion. Both of these coins were minted as Coin alignment ↑↓ meaning the obverse and reverse sides are orientated 180° from each other. They may both be counterfeits but I'm not experienced enough to say. However, unless they were specifically advertised as being "cleaned" I'd return them for that alone.
It is quite Usual for Coins of this age to look like the ones you have as they age that way and £15 is a good price for the 1724 1/2p and £22 for the 1674 1/4p is also a good price.
You did alight but please don't clean them it will ruin them and they will not be anywhere near the value they are now.
Ian.
