Hi all
Now that people are starting to get out and about a bit more after the covid lock downs etc. I have started noodling 50p's again.
This week I've changed £400 and ended up with the following

2005 Johnson's Dictionary x2
2006 Victoria Cross - Medal x2
2006 Victoria Cross - Soldier x2
2011 Olympic Games London 2012 - Archery
2011 Olympic Games London 2012 - Boxing
2011 Olympic Games London 2012 - Wrestling
2013 Christopher Ironside x3
2016 Battle of Hastings
2016 Beatrix Potter - Peter Rabbit
2017 Beatrix Potter - Benjamin Bunny x7
2017 Beatrix Potter - Mr. Jeremy Fisher x2
2017 Beatrix Potter - The Tale of Peter Rabbit x2
2017 Beatrix Potter - Tom Kitten
2018 Beatrix Potter - Peter Rabbit
2018 Paddington Bear - Buckingham Palace
2018 Paddington Bear - Station
2019 Paddington Bear at St. Paul's Cathedral x5
2019 Paddington Bear at the Tower of London x4
2020 Brexit x7
2020 Diversity Built Britain x7
2008 Britannia (3.5 million , not easy to get)
2017 Shield (1.8 million , not easy to get)

Also in one bag I had a 2020 Hungarian 50 Forint instead of a 50p (got robbed there!!!)
I should start doing this again, my question is where did you got so much change from? My bank told me they can't do it anymore unless I have a bussines account.
Merv,
Noticed that the elusive Kew Gardens coin was not amongst the list. Still, a lovely cross section of coins.

I am surprised that the Hungary coin was included as it is 0.3gms lighter, so when weighing the bag, a discrepancy should have been noticed. Perhaps they allowed for a little wear over the 800 coins?
I'm just a collector of coins, not a slave to it, unless I am in a coin shop.
For all you banknote collectors. Link to my swap list.

Well done on the lovely finds Merv.
Football, Judo, Triathlon & Wrestling are quite rare.
Fun fact : Noodling is known in some Southern States of the U.S. as attempting to catch catfish with only your bare hands. Never heard the term noodling here associated with coins. We simply call it coin roll hunting. I enjoy it and usually find a few keepers.

Have never done this noodling/coin roll hunting. Planning to embark on this fun filled journey
I've found coin roll hunting very rewarding over the years. However I'm in the US and we've used the same sized coins since the 19th century, so finding silver is more likely then in most places.

I still get a few rolls of a various coins when I visit my bank, find it fun and find some interesting things. Occasionally some silver, some W or S mint quarters for instance. Nothing today however but 1 curious coin. I went through 2 rolls of quarters and found a 2005 UAE 1 Dirham. It is pretty close to the size of a U.S. quarter and can see how that could go undetected. This type:

https://en.ucoin.net/coin/united_arab_emirates-1-dirham-2005/?cid=2569
Is just me or is there more of the uncommon-rare commemorative coins (50ps for me in this case) in circulation and has anyone else notice this increase?

Because normally I get 1-2 finds in 2 bags but this time 6 commemorative 50ps in two bags.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.

Theoretically you made 2 cents from that.

I got a Kew Gardens about 3 or 4 years ago from the same bank that I had £250 on Friday morning, I told the cashier when I went in the next time & he said that he'd never seen one . I took it in and showed him the next time I went in.
The Hungary coin was in a sealed bag from the clearing bank so I suppose their machines are calibrated more on size than weight accuracy.
Quote: "allexis"I should start doing this again, my question is where did you got so much change from? My bank told me they can't do it anymore unless I have a bussines account.
Hi allexis
My bank said to me that because it costs them money to buy the coins in I was only allowed a couple of bags (£20) each time. So I suggested that instead of me taking all their coins and other customers not getting any, I receive a sealed bag from the clearing bank £250 and give them £250 in 50p's that I have already checked. If they haven't got £250 I'll just take what they have.
I have to try and go in on the day after they get a delivery or I may miss out. I'm going in again Saturday to try and get £100 in 10p's. I might even try my luck in another bank & see how they respond.

update:- out of luck with the 10p's on Saturday, I'll try again next week. I had a word with second bank & they seem ok with the idea of swapping large amounts, I'll see how that goes & how long it takes before they say no more.
This week started with some bad news for me. My second bank after telling me on Saturday that it was ok for me to have £250 of 50p's in one hit , told me on Monday morning that I would have to open a business account and pay for the service. I said that I would swap like for like but still no go. After that bad news the week got a lot better.

£780 in 50p's this week and ended up with the following.

2000 Public Libraries x5

not a bad haul for 2 weeks, that's 6 different Olympic Games which includes the football one & a Jemima Puddle-duck.
It goes to show that there are still some good 'uns out there.
maybe a Kew Gardens next week....
Sounds great

I watch a few British collectors noodle these coins like Coin Patrol and Chris Collects and they always get annoyed when they find Benjamin Bunnies in their 50p coin hunts.

Is there something about the Benjamin Bunny coin that is so bad? and what is it? Is it because he is a big effeminate rabbit who wears a women's hat or did they mint like 500 million of them and only 1 million of all the others?
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

The Royal Mint minted 25 million Benjamin bunnies which is the highest for a commemorative coin even some definitive years (Shield and Britannia) has a lower mintage than that.

Funny thing is that I’ve only found two of them in my area in 2 years of hunting 50ps so I assume they're not as common in my area.

Merv,
What the hell are you doing with all of these coins? Are you swapping them back in for the next batch, or spending them very slowly.
If you are adding them to your swap list, it will be huge

Merv

Sorry, I meant "Queen's Platinum Jubilee" (edited 12th.April)
Merv,
I obtained my Platinum Jubilee coin from the post office not far from where I live as they told me earlier, that the post offices were being sent them to put slowly into circulation. I assume other places may have also done the same, but not too sure of that. Have obtained two more from the same post office, who saved them for me.

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
I know there were expecting around a hundred, but only received a fraction of that, so us collectors got one each to start with, and if there were any spares after a month, we were allowed two more. I like the system they have, so all "customers" (collectors really), get one each, which is extremely fair. They did similar with other 50 pence coins issued in the same way.

In one bag there were 6 LARGE (old type). These were instead of 10 smaller ones. They weigh about the same as 10 small ones. It cost me £5.00 for the 6 large, the pain was eased a bit when I saw that 3 of the dates were hole fillers for my collection.

I had a few weeks staying safe during the covid scare so this is about a year of quite heavy duty noodling. Can't wait to see what the next 12 months brings.
