Welcome to October, time for some new additions.

Here is mine, arrived this morning - 7 old Australian Florins including this one!

It's in "fine" or slightly better condition, likely cleaned.
Australian coin collectors will know straight away about this coin and its reputation.

Others include 1910, 11, 12, 13, 14 plain and 1928.
The earlies are mainly G/VG but the 1928 is a cleaned Fine and 1914 almost Fine.

1914 - a nice example of a very early date. Australian Florins from this era are almost always found very worn as they were used non stop for over 30 years! They were also the largest coin and last denomination up to the 10/- note. They never issued Halfcrowns and the Crown was a 2 year thing in 1937/38 which flopped.

1910 Worn but honest (A bit better than VG0 example fo the first year.

1911 - Decent, but also worn example, the first year of King George V and a scarce date

1912 - Ditto, a bit more worn and also a scarce date

1913 - Very worn and faded example (Good+) but still an interesting early coin - likely cleaned.

All Australian silver and bronze before 1916 was minted in the UK at the Royal Mint or Heaton.

1928 - Fine/near Fine, but sadly cleaned and possibly dipped.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

The 1932 Florin from Australia is the rarest one - apart from the Melbourne Centenary one.

I finally got a 2017 Silver Krugerrand - the commemorative one.

The 2019 Silver Krugerrand is the last one I need to complete my date set.

Aidan.
Correct! and I have the Melbourne Centenary too - along with a 1938 Crown. Yes unlike my NZ and UK collections, there is a glut of quality Australian rarities.

I also won some very nice British shillings in the Mowbrays auction, but will show them when I get them!
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

I bought a small collection of New Zealand postal notes in last Friday afternoon's Mowbray's auction - a steal at 90 Dollars, plus commission.

There was a 1980 2 Pounds British Postal Order overprinted 'NEW ZEALAND' issued at Frankleigh Park (New Plymouth) in the lot.

I was so happy to get my first New Plymouth issue in the process.

Aidan.
Arrived this Morning a Lot of Superb Indian Coins

Coin varieties in French:

21 coins bought today, but I chose four of them because 17 of them are same types but new year or same types and same year. All of four are new types into my collection, and one of them is the 127th issuer in my collection, and that is Seychelles.

2017 Silver Krugerrand - picked up last Friday afternoon for 50 Dollars;

Only 1 Million was struck for this commemorative coin - which is pretty low for a bullion coin.

Only need the 2019 Silver Krugerrand to complete my date set from 2017 to 2021.

Aidan.

British gap filling here

1905 Florin - a scarce date in decent Fine condition

1834 Shilling in Fine/near Fine condition - my first shilling of this ruler

Average group of 1920/26 Threepences with debased 1920 and both types of 1926 (Old and Modified effigy)

Decent group of nVF/VF 1928/36 UK threepences.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

This addition is actually an upgrade to my collection.

Serbia 1 dinar 1879

I bought a few banknotes today at an antiquary that opened recently near where I work.

Today's highlights:
- Russia 25 roubles 1909 and 100 roubles 1910 (this one is big!)
- Brazil 1 Cruzeiro ND (reused 1000 réis)
- Argentina 10 pesos 1888 (with 1894 overprint) - not on Numista yet, already working on that.
Recently I added this to my collection I mean it was a while ago but still my newest addition mine was 1621 https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces33236.html
I got a few coins from an uncle from his travels in Europe. All of these are pretty common but it helped to extend my European collection.

The obverse of the 20 rappen was nice with it's lustre
Hi there! I am an inexperienced collector with an interest in a lot of coins
Another high grade Victorian silver masterpiece to add to the family!

1894 EF/high VF Halfcrown with slight edge bump, lots of lustre and detail on this one

Was pretty cheap too and its an upgrade!
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

Here are my additions for the month as of 18 Oct.:
Japanese Occupation 1 Sen (2nd Series)
A 1974 Federal Reserve Note and six Standard Chartered $10 notes from 1994 (consecutive numbers) which I received from a friend.
Hong Kong Gov't $1 (1955) - key date in this series. Not the best looking but at HKD20 it was perfect for a bargain buyer like me.
HSBC $100 (2016) with four consecutive 8's in its number. Us Hongkongers go crazy for 8's in particular - the more the better.
Chartered Bank $5 (1959) and HSBC $100 (1966) - where the majority of my budget was spent. The former is really rare but the latter, for some reason, has been wildly popular these days. I was fortunate enough to pick up the last one in stock.

And now that I've gotten my second $100 note of the 1959-72 series I can do this:

Random, I know. The Chinese have a saying of "good things always come in pairs" (好事成雙)...
"Life is all about being too wrapped up in the now to care about the future. When the future becomes the past, you start to regret what you've done."
Very beautiful group. I love the Hong Kong banknotes, so much variety. When I was there in 2014 we only had 3 days and a total of $1900 spending money, they gave it to us in $500 (Brown) and $100 notes. We left there with $32 - so never got to keep the $100.

Would you consider collecting the $500 and $1000 notes - or too expensive (Understandably).

2 Beautiful "slightly impaired" proofs for the growing Halfcrown and emerging Shilling collections.

1937 shilling, English - Proof in AU condition (Obverse looks UNC to me)

1937 Halfcrown, can't be a Moneytane coin adding post without the ubiquitous halfcrown.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

Glad to see a topic like this and all nice coins and notes!

I have a bought a little but my most interesting one this month. United States 20 cents 1875 San Francisco Mint

A wonderful addition to my Canadian Colonial's, LC-22B. Minted in Belleville, New Jersey by John Gibbs (a known counterfeiter).

And an Australian 1/2 Penny Token with an excellent reverse design and some great history.

Very nice, Peter!

Do you have the Rebellion Sou in your collection?

It has a cap & a star as part of the design to commemorate the 1837 Lower Canadian Rebellion.

That is one that has eluded me so far.

Professor Holloway's 1/2 & 1 Penny tokens also circulated here in New Zealand as well - but I class them as English.

Reminds me of a pezza della rosa
These are my noteworthy finds from 2 days ago.

2017 Benjamin Bunny 50p from using the vending machine trick as well as some other coins for my date run.

Basically at college there is a coffee vending machine that when you insert a coin and press reject it returns a different coin but the same denomination apart from if you insert three 5ps it will give you one 5p and a 10p instead.

Finally the best one if this is true. A friend gave me this two pence dated 2021! Which instinctively I thought was a key date two pence because it is one of the NIFC (2018-now) years because back in 2020 the royal mint said that they aren’t going to mint any two pence and 2 pound coins for the next 10 years (for general circulation of course) although they can start minting them if they need to. So if true this would be my first NIFC find.:8D

I could be overreacting if the RM started minted 2ps again but even with that I’m still keeping it.

yah hard to come by since they were only made for around 5 years because the public were to lazy to pay attention wether or not it was a 25 cent pice or 20 cent pice nice addition.

Another $100 banknote from the HSBC. This one is dated 13 Mar 1972 and it is the last issue of its series. I happened to see it on display as the bus went past it and I hurried back to the shop after class to check it out. Five minutes and HKD180 later my months-long search for a $100 banknote from the early 70s ended.

Not the best looking, I know (note the tear on bottom center right) but BARGAIN BUYING 4 LYF BRO

Thank you! I don't like throwing down a bunch on a coin but I did get it at a good price from a dealer I use a lot. I would say it grades around XF as you can still see liberty on the shield. Got it for $153 US tax and all out the door. Nice Romania notes. I am going to show my Korean Won (sp?) to see if I have it catalogued right over on that forum.

I've been looking at some new countries to buy coins from to diversify my collection a little bit. I was looking at some Swiss talers and Danish krones / 4 marks, and in the end I went with a very similar country to Denmark and Switzerland- Afghanistan

AH1316 / 1899CE Afghan 5 Rupees -
45.6g 45mm
Now the heaviest coin in my collection
These were poorly made which is evident through the weak strike and numerous die cuds

New coin. A rupee from Cooch-Behar Kingdom :)

Lovely and interesting coins guys - the Afghan 5 Rupee is very interesting!

Just a few more from me, a high grade British shilling from 1932

Unbelievably cheap and replacing a coin I brought just last month.

New Guinea 1935 holed 3d and 6d, interesting tiny coins. The 6d was just dirt in the hole, no metal shavings sadly. That completes the set - both coins had just 2 dates made!
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

Todays little gem is:-
1 Puttun - Cochin British Protectorate - Kingdom of Cochin – Numista

Only 7mm so joint smallest coin I have. Photos don't do it justice!

And it is my 700th issuer so pleased to get a nice one to hit that target.

George I - 1723 SSC shilling, with Conjoined arms at date, cleaned near Fine

Victoria - 1888/7 Jubilee shilling, toned/grubby gVF

Edward VII - 1905 the scarcest 20th century coin with just 466k made - scarce and nice fine condition
