Wish list and missing coins [solved]

Hi,
I'm having troubles finding a documentation on the usage of wish list and missing coins. Any links? The Quick Tutorial is just a start, and seems outdated (dated 2013).

As I am new here, I want to set up my several 1000 coins correctly right away, it's a one shot for me to get a hold on this. And these lists seem to be crucial.

Wish list:
  • I learned that the wish list will be visible to other collectors for coin swaps.
  • So this list cannot be used as a "100% target" or frame for my collection, where I tag what I already have?
  • The coins I don't need or want will certainly not be this list, so why is there an explizit list "Coins I don't wish to have"? As there are dozens of 1000s of coins in the World I don't wish to have - why should I mark them all?

Missing coins
  • The coin search allows to search for " all the coins/banknotes I'm missing".
  • Is this another list I can edit somewhere or is this calculated by Numista?
  • What is the difference to my wish list, or in other words, why should I not have a missing coin on my wish list?

As said these lists seem to be powerful search criteria if set up correctly. I guess it's all explained somewhere, and I'm the only blind since 2013, but a hint would be great. (and maybe an update of the Quick Tutorial)
Argh, the second time my post was deleted so only very short this time without fancy links and formatting.

Only you see the content of your wishlist others can only see a number
See first picture on this article (https://en.numista.com/numisdoc/swap-on-numista-a-complete-guide-147.html)

Most stuff is self explanatory under the wish settings under My wishes
https://en.numista.com/souhaits/vos_souhaits.php

You can add criteria for stuff you want, so why not add them for stuff you don't want. I have on for Tokens and Patterns for all countries

The missing list is a cross check of your collection against the catalog

Also the article was updated in 2019 so it's quite up-to-date.

Just so you know, you do not need to do anything on the My swaps page before entering your coins to your collection. Many people never do anything with those lists. They do not affect your collection and can be set up and changed, or not, at any time. Feel free to enter your collection then experiment with those lists afterwards. You can do no harm to your collection.
I'm not sure if you can wish anything else than "types"? Year, mintmark and variety are not foreseen, at least last time I looked at it, it was of no use for my way of collecting.

Thank you for your feedback.
So far I came to this conclusion:

TOP DOWN
+ The positive "search criteria" in swap wishes define the overall frame
./. negative "search criteria" allow a general exclusion of coins
= general frame of the collection

MY COLLECTION
./. Coins I already have: Numista automatically takes these out of the potential swap list
= automatic missing list

BOTTOM UP
The top down-frame can now be specified on coin level, which overrules the general search criteria:
+ "I wish to get it" adds coin to the frame (wish list)
./. "I don't wish to get it" takes coin out of the frame
= "potential swap wishes"

The key idea I learned is that the individual wish list applies
* if you do not use the global frame at all and put everything individually on a list or
* if you use the frame and want to specify the outcome

As rsirian1 said, not all lists need to be used, but now I know which way to go.
Thanks to all

PS: I put this logic into a set theory:

Status changed to Solved (ZacUK, 5 Ara 2021, 07:26)
Now, with this set logic above, I wonder about the 4 settings in "swap wishes".

4) is okay, the general "missing list":
A (catalog) - C (exclude catalog) - E (coins I have)
There is no documentation on this, but I guess the own collection is excluded, and the collector needs to add coins indivdually to the wish list if double coins are searched or a lower grade should be exchanged etc.
1) = specification of the general missing list to individual collection goals
[ Missing list (general frame as above) OR B (wish list) ] MINUS D (unwish list on coin level)
= perfect
3) is okay, but overdone: B (wish list) AND NOT D (unwish-list)
B and D are complete separate sets, so just selecting B (wish list) will do the job
2) Missing list AND wish list
This seems odd: This intersection cuts the coins out of the wish list which don't fit the general criteria.
Why would anyone cut his wish list down to just this specific intersection, as there are many more intersections not selectable here?

Alternative idea:
This just came to mind as a proposal, to create maximum flexibility in the selection.
Numista has 5 coin sets defined by each collector (A to E), so the setting could offer:
A) add - exclude - do not consider (general selection from catalog)
B) add - exclude - do not consider (general exclusion)
E) add - exclude - do not consider (coins I have)
C) add - exclude - do not consider (coins on wish list)
D) add - exclude - do not consider (coins on unwish list)

C) and D) will overrule A, B, E), so the order is relevant here.
This way collectors could produce and analyze any intersection of the catalog.

Maybe I do not understand this wish list, even after 500 swaps.

On Numista you can list your own collection and you can list items you want to swap.

You can also make a list of coins that you wish, but that list is only internal and no one can see that list.

Is that correct?

I love this post.  Outstanding.

I wish I could see other people's wish list and they could see mine. It would make it easier to initial and conduct swaps if we knew exactly what we were interest in, rather than just having coins and notes that might possibly be of interest.

For me it's all about getting coins from years I still don't have, so how would I ever be able to set up a wish list?
