Hello,
after merging issuers like Belgian Congo, Zair under DR Congo i received many messages where are they and if it is a possibility to split them again. I think that one flag of DR Congo is confusing. I recommend to add flag of all issuers that were merged under DR Congo like it is done with Canadian Province ,Argentine Province or Poland Partitions.

It's a very good idea, but wouldn't it be better to even split these issuers again to make the catalog more coherent? I know, I am very insistent on this issue, but whatever you look at it, it makes no sense to have put together these issuers. Numista must be the only numismatic catalog in the world (online or printed) that does not make this distinction between these issuers. It is very normal that you receive many messages of the type "where are they?"

I will welcome back them too. I think we have two choices now. We add flags to announce that there are inside DR Congo. If we do that then we need to do the same in Germany : GDR, Germany - 1871-1948 and Germany, Federal Republic of - should be as one issuer. We must be consistent, when we merged DR Congo we must do the same with Germany with this three issuers because this is the same situation.
The 2nd choice : We do DR Congo same as Germany : Belgian Congo, Zair Free Congo will be issuers like GDR, Germany - 1871-1948 and Germany, Federal Republic. One way or another.

Although I appreciate the fact that someone spent time doing it, I think the merging of these countries (and others that were similarly treated) was a travesty, and a step away from catalogue consistency. I would prefer to see a Zimbabwe type of arrangement where the old political entities are listed as sub-items of the current political entity. I don't think that animated flags are helpful at all because most users won't know the flag of the Belgian Congo or Zaire.

There needs to be several sections;

Congo Free State.

Belgian Congo.

Congo (Leopoldville) - 1960-71.

Zaire.

Congo (Kinshasa) - since 1997.

Of course, Katanga also warrants a separate listing as well.

Aidan.
Hello,
I don't really like animated rotating flags. The policy so far was to use them only for groups of issuers, like Canadian provinces or Swiss cantons, but use only the latest flags for regular issuers.
If we start showing historical flags for all the issuers, the issuer list would turn into a blinking Christmas tree.
