Catalog administration team question about this website

Hello,

I'm a new premium member here, so please forgive me if this is already a function on this site, and I just couldn’t find it.

I live in the United States. So far I’m only using this site to research and now to enter all World coins I have from outside the U.S. (Foreign to me). I’ve entered about 1600 coins so far, with ten times more than that to go, so lots of work left on my part. I see that it gives a total USD value of the coins, based on grade and collectors value.

My question is, could there be a “Face Value Conversion” total box added? I’ve noticed some of the values listed are below face value when converted to todays exchange rates.

I realize this could be a large task, but thought I’d ask anyways. Maybe a world currency exchange house daily postings could be put into here, and each users could list their home Country monetary choice, and any coins from outside their home Country choice in their collection, would automatically be converted to current “Face Value” vs “Collection Value”

I’d really like to know how much face value I have in these thousands of coins I have.

I already see my first mistake, I thought I was in a different forum, the one about the website, don’t know how I got in this forum, and don’t know how to move it, sorry!

Most of the non-demonetized circulating coins from France have something partially like this. The minimum value of each grade of each year is pinned to the face value. The current exchange rate is used to convert the face value to other currencies. For instance, this 2 euro coin:

Of course this could only be done for non-demonetized coins which probably makes up only a small part of the total coins in the catalog.

I think I understand what your saying, and understand if something is demonetized, it could be under face value.
But here I was looking up currently in circulation United States $1 bills, and in the below screenshot, some of the grades show the $1 notes being worth less than $1.
Also so many notes don’t have a value listed so when entered, I’m guessing your total collection value doesn’t count any of the notes that don’t have a value pre-filled in. Is that correct?
Also how is it that some values are higher in a lower grade, than those in a higher grade? I’ve seen that a lot on the coins?

Also, for the Star notes, I saw some chat about them being broken down in more detail. Is that something that is coming? Especially for the 2013 B New York $1 Star Notes that there were 9.6 million mistakenly printed with duplicate Serial Numbers. So those have to be double listed accounting for the ones printed in DC, and those same Serial Numbers printed in Fort Worth.
Can a feature be added for the addition into our collection of BEP packs, or consecutively Serial Numbered notes we have, like B04692101*-B04692200*, and then all 100 notes show up individually? That way we don’t have to enter each note individually.

From what I could understand:
Numista is not a quotation site
Quotations are provided by members (or auction statements) which indicate the price paid in the grade of the coin (or note) acquired, this value is then subjected to a formula to eliminate incongruous values.
Everyone is free to buy a coin at 100 or 1000 times its value, conversely a coin found in the gutter does not require a quotation, the same for those which have never been the subject of a transaction.
The number of valuations on each quality deduces an indicative market value without necessarily having to influence the other qualities. Some pieces are only available in 2 or 3 qualities, some of which do not move... until they are sold.

​I wasn't trying to "solve" this or make a suggestion on how to implement this. I was just stating a way in which the current French coins were handled differently than others and the fact that some form of currency conversion is already being done. ​If I understand your request properly, you're asking for a single number that represent the face value of all your coins/banknotes converted to USD (or another currency of your choosing). Obviously you wouldn't be able to include demonetized coins/banknotes in that number as they have no face value in today's currency. Also, as I said before, only a small number of circulating coins in the catalog have a face value today, approx. 3.6%, so I'm not sure that single number would really be meaningful.

Being that only 3.6% have face value, then I agree with you, not worth the effort.

One thing that could explain current coins with lower than face value values is the fact that I have found British Pounds or Australian dollars (for instance) in the "4 for a buck" bins multiple times. So I paid for them 25c even when their "face value" is a few times over. If I report how much I paid for them Numista will add those to the "average" show on the page, which will be lower than face.
