I have posted yesterday about asking people not to be ignorant in the given situation in Ukraine.
It has been deleted overnight.
Therefore I suspend my activities here till the censorship is handled

Hi imreh,
That is not censorship but forum policy as you know it: Numista is not a place to post/start political thread/debate, be it for or against a situation.
The Russia/Ukraine current situation is not handled differently on Numista compared to the others similar situations that have happened in the past be it in Europe, in Africa, in Asia or in America.

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.
I agree, it might be easy to excuse it as free discussion is for talking about /almost/ anything.
But I have read the forum policy and "Messages aiming at stating political or religious views or controversial historic interpretations are not authorized." Does fit well.
Quote: "numinis"There was also other thread on different subject, and I don't see it anymore. Did it happen because the war was also mentioned there?
A thread is not necessarily deleted because it is about a "war"; it is not just about the topic/content itself (nor being for or against a position) but if the thread is of political nature.
Also, it happens that moderators (I'm part of them) miss a thread. If there are similar threads on political matters, you may report them and moderators will handle them.

The post was not political.
The post was not about war.
The post was clearly humanitarian and asked for solidarity for people who lost their homes and relatives.
If this is against Numista policies, then the policies are wrong.
If you still maintain that it is ok to delete a post like this, it is YOU who are siding with criminals and aggressors.
The choice is yours.

Why would you ask for solidarity on a forum about coins, banknotes and exonumia? What is there to gain by posting that here? To stop people trading and collecting Russian things? That’s political. To start a discussion? That’s political.
This is just not the place for posts like that, but that’s just my opinion.

Very well put. While obviously people here do and will care about the current events, there are more than enough places to discuss the matter and anyone who wants to talk about it is more than capable of finding an outlet.
I won't elaborate more on the discussion and simply reiterate the already mentioned point/policy:
Everybody has an opinion and can express it on appropriate channels...Numista is not one to express political opinion or debate. Period. Forum policy is explicit and is not new.

In my opinion, the deleted thread (which was started by imreh) wasn't intended as political, although it is true that it was strongly worded, and in such a way that the author's political views were clear. Asking for solidarity on humanitarian, humanistic, humane, and human grounds is not political in itself.
By the way, the other thread mentioned above (I don't remember the author of its first post) was about coins, and not "of political nature." Even if some forum users have expressed their political views in their responses, this wasn't a sufficient reason to delete the whole thread.
Quote: "smvdbrink"Why would you ask for solidarity on a forum about coins, banknotes and exonumia?
I suggest two reasons, although there are more:
To quote the subtitle: the forum "Free discussion" is "Chitchat about any subject".
As the word "nuclear" started popping out in today's news, it is technically possible that we are living through the last days of human civilization. In the light of it, a bit of solidarity doesn't hurt, and in fact it is good idea to use all possible channels to promote solidarity.
Who are we ? coin collectors.
What do coins and banknotes represent? Just vectors of political power.
Politics and geopolitics are on our daily menu. And it's good to take a step back from the continuous flow of information that overwhelms our subjectivity.
Here is an example of someone who has thought about and compiled the data of the current problem between East and West.

You can't expect people to 'chitchat' about this subject without it turning political. That's where the forum policy comes in.

Gosh there goes my idea for a illegal gambling/pornography/black market thread! curse that pesky Forum Policy.
Hello Imre,
As you asked for my opinion on this, I can only reiterate what pejounet already mentioned.
No matter whether I agree with your support to Ukrainians, the Numista rules must apply on this forum. Your message was clearly political (you can't deny that insulting a country's leader or asking for boycott is not political) and political messages are not allowed on the forum.
If your goal is only humanitarian and asking for solidarity, you are welcome to post again without political statement.

Thank you Xavier. I agree with your response.
Let us have compassion for both sides in this matter. Citizens on both sides are putting themselves in danger for peace. I stand with them, I stand for peace on both sides.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!
Imreh,
Very understandable that you have strong emotions on this. I myself, am very upset and inspired and have messaged with another concerned ukrainian citizen. But after 6 hours of watching and reading the news, even I had to flip on basketball and as my kids say "play coins" for a few hours. Think of the flip side: There are some AWESOME Russian numistists members here that may be embarrased, proud, upset, or even conscripted. Let's not alienate anybody for what is a passion that can be shared and enjoyed by anybody.
Now, if the mods allow u/PutinsCoins to post 1Trillion Rubles up on their swaplist, you will definitely have a valid beef!
Until then, as hard as it may be, take 30 mins a day and enjoy your hobby! It is something we should all do.
Wish you nothing but the best!
i hope diplomats will make a solution(difficult)soon..every logical human wants to stop the war now
Everyone wants to write many things about the war is happenning now but we have to have in our minds that the people of all countries(most people) DONT WANT WARS!
And it starts again, so couple of messages deleted and let's try to keep the discussion on facts rather than opinions.
I will remind one more time not to enter the political realm, not to call for boycotting or blocking members from specific countries, not to insult others - whether it's a politician you don't like or other members of Numista
Again there are channels for politics and such debate, and I encourage you to use them.

"uk column news" is also a group that has thought about what is happening.
At the moment, when you go to the front page of Numista.com, this is what you see.
All of the coins, banknotes, and exonumia at random are from the Ukraine.
My question is this: Why are users of the site not allowed to post on the matter of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in the forum because "Messages aiming at stating political or religious views or controversial historic interpretations are not authorized," and yet the management of Numista.com takes it upon themselves to editorialize on exactly the same subject on the front page?
I don't understand how this does not constitute "stating political or religious views or controversial historic interpretations".
Can we please have our old randoms back. They were far more interesting.
Showcasing Ukrainian coins and banknotes on the home page is a gesture of solidarity with the people of Ukraine, which are, at the moment, undoubtedly suffering from war.
As I mentioned in my message above on September 27th, all users are welcome to express their solidarity on the forum, whether toward the Ukrainian people or other suffering people around the world.

I’m sorry to disagree with you, Xavier, but this feels like a double standard.
But it is your site. You can take any position you want to, I suppose. I just wish we, as a community with deep ties to people on both sides of the conflict, could have remained neutral.

Thing are not only right or wrong. We should keep neutral. It is irritating to see only Ukranian coins, we know what that means. I found that "UK Column" explains very cleverly how extraordinarily complicated history is in this part of the world. I agree with all you have written!
Im glad the frontpage is full of Ukrainian coins.
To be "irritated" by them sounds a little harsh to be honest, it sounds like you're against Ukraine.
You can still stand and support and maintain solidarity without it being political.

Yes perhaps it was the wrong word, but it is the coins that indicate support for Ukraine, study history and you might see that things are not simple in that part of the world.

I sadly have to disagree as i'm sure the history is complicated, but right now as I am writing this there is a war going on there and only Ukrainian cities are under siege, I know exactly who I want to stand with.

We all know how the versailles conference ended, do we wish to treat Russia in the same way?. I fear that it will end in a way that few of us would want. There has been many wars that USA and UK have mainly been responsible for, and none of them ended well. Why was USA not sanctioned ?

Wouldn't be a problem if Russia didn't invade at all. From everything going on they brought this on themselves.
Now let's get back to adhering to forum policy (Praise be the Forum Policy Amen)
I have stayed out of this for the most part but have been following it all. I do want to say this if you don’t like what is written on this thread it’s as simple as keep scrolling and don’t read it. Let the people post on the free discussion one way or the other. If you don’t like what they have to say then stop following the thread. I’m sure this is just a way of coping for some members with all that’s going on in the world.
I think if somebody want to ban Russia, why not ban the selfproclaimed-world-police-officer, the USA??? I think that will make more sense. I like to mention some names to remind those who easily forget things: Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan and many more. However in my opinion we should here concentrate on coins, no matter where they come from.

That is not easy or funny, shame that the actions of one man are destroying the future of all of Russia. This country could have had a bright future.
a senseless war and everyone suffers from it.
of course the most the innocents under constant threat of shells and rockets.

The sanctions are less hard on Europe even of course the prices and inflation are rising.
so far here in Germany it means 6% higher prices on average fir most products.
already now in Germany I pay 4 times more for Gasoline than I would in Moscows current prices.
most people are ready to pay higher prices to defend peace in Europe.
still also in Europe it is tough as many especially central and eastern European Countries are heavily dependent in gas and oil from Russia
wish you go through all of this well Grinya, it angers me how much Putin with his aggressions is damaging all Russian peoples and hurting the peace of the world.
We don’t want war, we want Peace, Love and Collecting coins

Wake up and stop looking at Russian news.
there is only one agressor and only one man who threathened the world with a nuclear war.
Putin is destroying the next 100 years of all the Russians, going back to the middle ages.

Surely not forgotten I even have a wife who is originally from Hiroshima. but one thing was a long time ago, my Country Germany has done unforgivable horrors in that time, important however is that one threat and aggression is happening now in 2022.

@apuking, generally I agree with you regarding Putin, he did a crime... but it would be wrong to say that he is the only responsible for what is happening. Politics from quite a lot of countries decided to be blind and did nothing to prevent the war. I think this is mostly because they didn't want to do it.
Now in Russia (at least most of the people I contacted) blamed putin for the war, but also outraged by the hypocrisy of western politicians who closed the eyes on everything before and started economics war against them now, but not against putin and his friends... And I'm afraid that this will help only to strength Putin positions here:((
