button found whilst excavation of a garden (Our Own Make) [solved]

5 posts • viewed 683 times
Whilst digging out my daughters/son in laws back garden, he came across this button amongst other things, including pottery and bones and a few badly worn coins. As you can see, there is wording on the button which states OUR OWN MAKE.

He gave the button to me, as he knows I like the search, of which, I have done a little, and came across this wonderful website.

https://www.migrationheritage.nsw.gov.au/exhibition/objectsthroughtime/trial-bay-buttons/index.html

This has given me most of the information we were looking for, except, what we considered to be very important.

What item/items of clothing were these buttons sewed too?

This is where you people come into play. Any ideas please

It is a trouser button.

So, basically, it is like what is used on jeans today.

Thanks for your reply.

I did not do a search as such, as when I put OUR OWN MAKE into Google, I had many websites showing these buttons, so that was all I needed except for my question above. Now I have that answer too.
