Melt values

I would like to know how the melt values of precious metal coins are calculated here on Numista.  I often find large discrepencies. Example, this coin in 14k - total weight of the coin 13. 338g - Actual gold weight 7.7759g - $261 at todays gold price. Numista shows $448. Am I missing something?

Weight (maybe in kg), times per mille value, times last updated metal value.

Right now the value for gold is 56444 € per kg only 40 € off.

On what is your 261 based?

Right, makes sense. I was only entering actual gold weight at 7.77g, and not total coin weight of 13+ grams. My mistake, thanks. SOLVED!

It's better to ask why is the price for this coin in UNC below the melt? this shall be authomatically corrected, IMHO

No, not better to ask. Entirely different subject. Because bullion value is so volitile and Numista uses only the history of previous sales and transactions. Clearly not enough recent transaction to qualify as an updated value on this specific coin based on the methodology Numista uses. If you want to make a suggestion they change that methodology, make a request.

But there could still be an automatism that puts up, maybe like ngc, a symbol for bullion value if the calculated value is smaller or bullion value over takes it.

I also occasionally see items that are listed for less than their denomination.  US Quarters for $0.24 for example.  Perhaps a rounding issue.

You will not get an argument from me as I see many, many coins valued less than what I personally feel they are worth even excluding precious metal coins and their melt value which was the essence of my topic. Everybody has an opinion and I can predict that no matter the method, not everybody will approve or be happy.  How Numista comes to their conclusions is a question you should ask Numista and not me. Start a new thread and ask for a change with suggestions on how to accomplish what you would like to accomplish. I can live with the way it is right now.
