Value? 1899 Czar Nicholas II 10 Rubles

What grade would you give this coin?

How much would a dealer pay me for this coin?

Is it genuine? If so, should I go through the time and cost to have it graded?

I'm trying to figure out what to do.  Any advice or help you might give me would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Doesn't look fake. Please add picture of the rim - there's writing on it. Check the dimensions and weight with the values on Numista to be more sure.

I bought one in much better condition on the famous auction site for $725 about a year ago. A dealer will likely give you much less.

I don't know about objective grading, but it looks pretty well-circulated to me. There are better specimens out there and these coins are pretty common. You could expect to take home maybe $500-600 hopefully, depending on how you sell it. Melt value is $400.

Edit: Depending on the initials on the rim your coin may be slightly more/less valuable. There is a rarer variety.

I am photographing with a Samsung Galaxy J2 Core, which is an 8 MP, f/2.2, AF camera.   Sometimes it snaps good pictures, and other times it's like using a potato cam. Nevertheless I'll try again to get decent photos of the edge.

Offhand, do you know what letters of the Cyrillic alphabet I should be looking for on the coin's edge?

It should say one of these:

1 ЗОЛОТНИК 78.24 ДОЛИ ЧИСТОГО ЗОЛОТА(А • Г)

1 ЗОЛОТНИК 78.24 ДОЛИ ЧИСТОГО ЗОЛОТА(Ф • З)

1 ЗОЛОТНИК 78.24 ДОЛИ ЧИСТОГО ЗОЛОТА(Э • Б)

Numista lists

 9% of the coins of 1899 to be (Э • Б), 13% (Ф • З), 48% (А • Г) .

It's unclear what the remaining 30% of the coins should say. Perhaps nothing?

Perhaps (А • Р) as that's the remaining set of initials and the line for it is simply missing.

Hi,stakeholder!

First, for the condition of your coin(that seems real & made of gold 900/1000 = 21.6kt.,weight 8.60g.),I have the same opinion as Kopeika : your coin looks pretty well circulated. So,some FINE grade to put on it!

Then, about the 3 signed edge varieties, the KM catalogue makes no difference of market values (although they had different mintages). All the 3 were mint in more than 27millions pieces in 1899. Also, the KM cat. says that only in XF condition & more, the value is greater than the melt one of gold…

1. VF details.  It looks like there are abrasion marks obverse (cleaning).  For comparison:  https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1495460

2. I would be surprised if a dealer would pay above melt ($406 US today)

3. No, do not waste your money on grading.  I do not believe you will be repaid for it in this instance.

4. If you are an eBay seller, you could try listing it on eBay for $499 and see if you get a taker.  After fees this puts you around $435, still better than spot.

thanks. I don't know why I didn't see it earlier. It says (А • Г)  - so per the percentage it's the most common.

thank you. Sounds like best advice to not get it graded. I'm not an ebay seller, though. Are there any alternatives you'd recommend for a one time seller?

Taking it to a dealer and trying to get anything above melt would probably be the safest bet then.
