Please add in a field titled ‘Language’.

It could be added in under the ‘Script’ field.

Aidan.

It is planned already.

@Xavier  , is there any progress towards adding this?

There are many languages that use Cyrillic & Latin alphabets - so it makes sense to indicate what language the item is inscribed in.

Totally agree, it would be nice to add this !

Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno

Please be careful about increasing the minimum amount of information required to enter in a new item. I've had a ref YELL at me when I first started with Numista for not including Latin (I suppose my fault for using the new item template rather than using an existing item as a template) and also gets stroppy when I forget to add in ‘Text only’ in the description. Suggest that should be needed/used on an exception basis or added as a default for particular countries.

Thanks

There are many languages that use a Latin based alphabet.

It would be nice to indicate the actual language in a field titled ‘Language’.

@Xavier , any news regarding this?

https://en.numista.com/help/what-are-the-mandatory-requirements-for-submitting-a-new-item-24.html

The only mandatory field for submitting a new page is the title.

The minimal requirements a referee should expect for a new page submission are:

  • Title
  • Issuer (country, city, etc)
  • Type
  • Descriptions and lettering. Inscriptions in inaccessible scripts for the contributor may be skipped.
  • Images. If images are not available, descriptions and letterings shall be complete.
  • At least one date-line.

The script field, and the language field suggested, are not mandatory. As a referee, I usually request the contributor to fill the most quantity of fields (so they learn how to fill a page) but I do not “yell” at them, of course. 😄

Suggest that should be needed/used on an exception basis

If the field is added, it should always be used (the description or the lettering fields should also always be used but there are incomplete pages). The referee is responsible for completing the page if the contributor does not. https://en.numista.com/help/what-are-the-duties-of-a-referee-11.html

or added as a default for particular countries.

I agree. For example, most objects issued by Spanish-speakers countries have the Latin script and the Spanish language, most objects issued by English-speakers countries have the Latin script and the English language, and so on.

The script field, and the language field suggested, could be filled by defect according the issuer when a new page is created, but a note should be displayed near these fields so that the contributor knows and changes the field if is erroneous or incomplete.
