That's cause both effigies were designed by different engravers.
George V on this dollar coin was designed by Percy Metcalfe, as with many other British commemoratives as well as Fijian and New Zealand coins, and the other by Edgar Bertram MacKennal.

WHAT! I have to choose between these two? I Want one of #1 SO bad, but #2 has deep history far deeper than you realize, #2 lead me to read for days and days about central American history. A bloody and complicated history going WAY back (for the Americas anyway)
