1874 Victoria Half Crown. I was wondering what grade do you reckon it is (as seen from pic chip on side) and value please?

Welcome to numista.

What did your internet researches bring you as information? Because I suppose you tried that already, didn't you? Who would like to do the same searches again….

Do those investigations yourself to find something from 0.99 to several hundreds, don't be lazy, show some initiative.

Just interested and done a bit of research… All I found was around £100/50 maybe as it's VF/XF so thought I would come on here and confirm the price with real people instead of statistics.

So, how do you grade your coin. BTW, numista is not a coin selling site.

XF bar the chip. I wasn't planning on selling, just interested.

Welcome to Numista. It has virtually no value if it is not authentic. Have you verified authenticity first? It does not look authentic to my eye but does looks suspiciously like one of these.

Don't think it's fake as it's not magnetic and weighs 14.1g. Numista page isn't that detailed as some sites and eBay say around £100 but only £16 on there? What site would you recommend for a good valuation and also what grade do you think it is. Also another photo in better light.

“A good site” for valuations? There are many. Wholesale, retail, Ebay, NGC, PCGS, slabbed, raw, grade, authentic, counterfeit, etc, etc?  First we must establish authenticity before grading and assigning value. I can assure you, seasoned coin collectors do not rely on Ebay or YouTube for value or authenticity.. If you are convinced it is authentic here are some opinions of value depending on many factors mentioned previously. In the end, it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You already have Numista's values. I believe your coin if authentic would grade XF.

As you can see, values are all over the place.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for the reply. I'd like to think its authentic. Maybe I'll take it to a local dealer and see what they have to say. From online a price range of around £125 seems reasonable for the condition, but thank you for the info.

Don't think it's fake as it's not magnetic and weighs 14.1g.

Just a word of caution…The copy from aliexpress is also not magnetic (silver plated copper-nickel) and most like also weighs 14.1g.  Your local coin shop will be able to tell you if it's solid silver and give you a better idea of authenticity with the coin in hand.

I would still grade your coin XF with the small rim ding.

Hello,

if it would  hammered coin, I`d  say it is XF, but as it is a “ MODERN”  coin, which made by modern technologies in the times of   proof coinage,  I think we should grade it  as  modern coin.  So,  as a lot of  real UNC   pieces of this KM are  exist, we can easily say, that  the obverse is F, and the reverse is VF, both sides are cleaned, and coin have a  rim  defect ( bump /ding) .

I guess, NGC would give “  Fine, with XF details, cleaned, rim ding”.  We should  critically grade our coins, if we  dont want to be surprised  once, after times,    getting a half price of the one we dreamed.
