Magnification - The choice of jeweller's loupe

8 posts • viewed 208 times

In an attempt to get a better view of my coins, I started to look for a new jeweller's loupe early last year and found one with 40x magnification.  I'd been using an old faithful 10x magnification loupe for years, but thought I'd ask the kids if they wouldn't mind getting something a bit more powerful for me, maybe as a Birthday or Fathers Day gift.  Then completely forgot I'd asked.

Some months later, Father's Day duly arrived and, hey presto, a brand new loupe appeared.  Fantastic !!!  The perfect children….   etc. etc.    But - Little or No difference to the old one.  Pictures below.

Anyone else had a similar experence?  Any pertinant advice for future Birthdays, Xmas, Fathers Day, or even the tooth fairy….

Is there anything out there that could link into a PC that anyone would recommend?

I have a digital microscope that I got on line that I plug into my laptop. Easy to use. Very good. Very cheap.

How much was it Merv?

Hi BluHawk,

I got it on Amazon for about £19.00.

It's a “Jiusion” digital microscope that ranges from 40 to 1000 magnification.

Thanks Merv - sounds good. Will definitely have a look.

Thanks
