Australian 5 Dollars (1995-2015)

Can someone please tell me how to tell the difference between 5 Dollar banknotes from 1997 and 1998.  There appears to be no date anywhere on the note and both options in the catalogue are labeled:  P#51.c E.A. Evans, I. Macfarlane

Hello 🤖

Without pictures, it will be very difficult for anyone to help you. Could you please post clear pictures of each side of your item?

Please note that this is an automatic message. Feel free to ignore if it is not relevant.

Look it up - that's why I've included the page address

The purpose of this is to highlight that there simply isn't enough information on some of the banknote pages.  In some cases, it is almost impossible to identify one banknote from another with the information supplied (i.e. Australian 5 Dollar notes from 1997 v 1998).  Please can entries such as this one be corrected ASAP so that the website can actually be used by members.  Maybe by entering a list of prefixes included under each date, or changing the tabs into a date range.  It may also be useful to check if there is actually a date printed on the banknote before setting up pages with dates - It's somewhat pointless putting individual dates on a list when there are no dates on the banknotes themselves.

Also, can someone please reset the Numista Robot so that it doesn't keep sending pointless messages like this (Maybe by setting it up to look for catalogue addresses, as well as photos, before automatically responding).

Rant over - apologies.  Just a bit frustrated after spending hours upon hours trying to identify only a few banknotes.

a good resource for me to figure out the differences between types/years/signatures is Bank Note Museum

On this page http://www.banknote.ws/COLLECTION/countries/AUS/AUS/AUS0051.htm you can find out that the first two digits refer to the year of issue (a system used by quite a few countries). Feel free to add this bit of information to the relevant Australian pages, like that they get a bit more complete 👍

Just call me Bram

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

Thanks Bram - Helpful !!!

Can't understand why our website isn't a bit more descriptive though, or include this sort of explanation.  It would save so much time.

Still doesn't get rid of the duplicated information against different dates though.

Like BramVB mentioned above.

Just to add to the above, this was only started in 1993 for the $5 and $10, but not all notes printed by NPA for overseas customers are printed this way.

Thanks ahkai

Currently having a break from banknotes for a few hours of sleep.  I'll have another go at them tomorrow, armed with better information.
