The new re-strikes has 'M' Mint letter instead of the original ‘B’ for Proof Sets.

If that is a restrike, then feel free to add it via this link: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/contributions/pre_nouveau.php?type=exonumia

Official restrikes should be listed separately from the original issue coins - & indicated why they are official restrikes.

They are NOT exonumia when they are clearly official.

Aidan.

Any re-strike is Exonumia - whether or not it is official.

Jarcek is correct.

Hello, this is just my opinion:

1. If the restrike is issued by an official body, obviously it must be in the coin catalog (Official government and face value of legal monetary system, what else is needed to be in the coin catalogue?)

2. If the restrike coin does not change in its basic characteristics, it must be on the same page indicating, as in this case, "restrike (year) and the letter M" (see photo example below)

3. In case of going to Exonumia (which shouldn't be), in which category would you go?

Correct,  The restrike coin doesn't change in its basic characteristics. The same Mumbai mint has issued with the ‘M’ Mintmark stands for Mumbai. Earlier it was 'B' which stands for Bombay.  Only ₹20 and ₹100 were issued in re-strikes though the original issues had ₹5 and 50 Paise with ₹20 and ₹100.  Needless to say, this is no where related to Exonumia.

Does the “restrike” have face value? If yes, then it is a coin.

I don't know why you're asking this question. This isn't exonumia. I've clearly posted that the face value of ₹20 and ₹100 has a variant with the ‘M’ mint mark apart from the usual ‘B’ mint mark and shared the images.

I am asking it because if a mint restrikes something almost 40 years old, it is usually something for collectors, and not “the same coin” intended to be possible to exchange at face value.

If it truly has face value, then ok, it is a coin.

It's a coin, the mint restriked the old coin in 2017 as part of birth centenary of Indira Gandhi as the Government and the mint didn't released any new commemorative coin for this event.

I had made a submission for 2008 restrike of the indira gandhi coins which were rejected in Feb. Needless to say I was very annoyed that the moderator did not bother to understand what was being contributed

can we please see the CoA of the 2017 restrike? I am not aware of it . The one I have is 2008 as you can clearly see below

This is a moot point. The Rs100 and Rs20 coins issued in 1985 were only meant for collectors as  well since nothing over Rs5 circulated

besides, this is not the first time he Bombay and/or calcutta mints have done restrikes. There were several in the 2000s… sant TuKaram, 150th anniv. railways, 150th anniv India post to name a few. Moreover, the Hyderabad mint has restruck several collector coins previously issued by Calcutta or Bombay mint. This should NOT be in exonumia.

@navaneethan, can you please provide CoA. every  VIP or VVIP set comes with one. I suspect this would not be 2017, but rather 2008 as I have shown in my post

Unfortunately CoA wasn't provided for me with the set. This isn't VIP or VVIP set, It's a restrike happened in 2008-2009 and 2017 which actually were minted with M Mintmark in the restrike instead of B mintmark of original strike (1985) . I brought it from Mumbai Mint directly in 2017.

When I say VIP or VVIP, I refer to the package that the restrikes were resented in. Mine is a VIP set as it does not have a stand. Yours is a VVIP set. I believe they  was re-struck in 2008 with the M mintmark and only made available in 2017 by Bombay mint. I do not believe some were restruck in 2008 and then again in 2017.
2008 would have been the 25th death anniversary of Indira Gandhi. There was a meeting supposed to have been held and the sets were to be given to those dignitaries. However since the event did not take place for reasons unknown, they were held by the mint and I suppose they started offloading them in 2017 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of her birth. However, even in 2017 these were not publicly advertised. Dealers had quietly bought out whatever stock was minted.

Mine is also a without the stand. I remember, they had both with stand and without stand. They said that it was re-struck for 100th Birth Anniversary and I brought it after seeing the M mint mark. However, I too feel you're correct after seeing your pictures. The mint always keep the collectors confused, it happened to me with the ₹200 Paika Bidroha in 2018-19 where I didn't received the CoA for one (since I had ordered two qty), after repeated follow-ups, they sent it.

Yes you’re right. I looked at my photos again and see the VVIP set stand is different From your set. I was offered the VVIP set as well back in June, but since I have the VIP, I passed on it.

i think we should change the date line to 2008 as we have CoA proof of it if you agree

Can the moderators please change the M mintmark line from 2017 to 2008 instead?
