Samoa 60 Tala show and tell

This is my latest acquisition. This note, imo, should be nominated for 2023 IBNS banknote of the year. I am a sucker for designs with billowing flags, and the blue and red colours are just eyes-catching. The design for this note features a daughter and father team (just like those Bangladesh commemorative notes issued). and on the back also features the NZ Prime Minister lowering the Samoa flag too.

Kai,

It was the New Zealand flag being lowered, not the Western Samoan flag - which was raised.

Western Samoa became independent on 1 January 1962 - but did not formally join the British Commonwealth until July 1970.

Western Samoa was given an unusual status in relation to the British Commonwealth from 1962 to 1970.

I hope to get a 60 Tala for my collection.

Nice note.

Is there a reason for the value 60 - celebrating an event or some such

60 Tala = 60 Years of Independence.
