This message aims at: requesting the modification of a banknote in the catalogue

I have received a modification request to move these 3 banknotes from the Banknotes catalog › Standard banknote to Exonumia › Promissory note.

N#327223

N#327226

N#327228

Before I can accept or reject the modification request, I would like to know the opinion of more users about it, since this type of banknotes is not my specialty.

In wikipedia they are named as banknotes of Spain:

https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anexo:Billetes_de_Espa%C3%B1a#Tesoro_real_de_Espa%C3%B1a

And here you have an Aureo&Calicó auction that also sells them as banknotes:

https://aureocalico.bidinside.com/es/cat/103/48/carlos-v-1833-1845-pretendiente/1/

I'll be waiting for your answers. Thank you, Oscar

In case you don't want to write, Upvotes would be to move them in Exonumia and Downvotes would be to leave them in Banknotes.

The translation of the text on the bond states that thye were acceptable for certain payments at 80% of face value.

“This Bond will be renewed in payment of all kinds of contributions and admitted for any payments that must be made in the Royal Treasury for eighty percent of its nominal value six months after the entry of S.M.C.D CARLOS V in Madrid.”

This does not in itself classify them as currency, as it is the issuer offering redemption at a discount prir to their maturity date.

However, if they circulated as currency in general they would likely fall into the category of banknotes by usage.

I would discount auction houses and their descriptions, the Irish Fenian bonds (1866 N#357753 ) are sometimes described as currency as they resemble banknotes, but they were not currency, just a loan receipt.

Many thanks for the info and your opinion. I understand, from what you say and from what I have found and that I explain below, that it is really better to transfer these notes to Exonumia, is that correct?

More info from Numismatica Baiget:

https://www.numismaticabaiget.com/79-carlos-v-el-pretendiente

“The pretender to the Spanish Crown, Carlos V, found himself forced to seek financing for the military campaign that he undertook against Isabel II. And among various measures, it issued 20 million Pesos Fuertes in Royal Bonds, which would be repaid within eight years from the arrival of the Suitor in Madrid. As it is that the above did not happen, they never remained as amounts delivered to the Carlist cause as non-refundable funds. In this way, we have three issues: 1st Issue of January 1835 of 16 Pesos Fuertes. 2nd Issue of Oñate of February 6, 1836, Bond of 47 Pesos Fuertes. 3rd Issue of April 8, 1837, with three values of 50, 100 and 200 Pesos Fuertes.”

I just added this info to this “banknotes” in Comments section.

We agree to transfer this 3 notes to Exonumia?

Yes, I think you are correct to transfer them to Exonumia, especially considering what Numismatica Baiget says about them. They are unlikely to ever have circulated as currency.

If they were intended for circulation in the areas under control of the Carlists, then they should be under ‘Banknotes’.

If they were intended for circulation in the areas under control of the Carlists

I think they weren't intended for circulation. The appear to be bonds issued to raise funds which would be redeemed after victory - quite like those issued by the Fenians.

Agree with exonumia.
