Pergamon in Ancient Greece

  • if possible, a brief introduction presenting the history of this issuer with any numismatic considerations useful to the reader

Pergamum or Pergamon was a powerful ancient Greek polis in Mysia. In 88 BC, Mithridates VI Eupator, the King of Pontus, made Pergamon his headquarters in his first war against Rome, in which he was defeated. The victorious Romans made Pergamum a tributary city and later the capital of the Conventus of Pergamum, Province of Asia. In AD 123, Hadrian raised the city to the rank of metropolis. The city issued bronze coinage from the reign of Augustus until the reign of Gallienus, as well as some autonomous silver coinage during Claudius and Hadrian.

Was there a problem with the description, as it does not appear?

Fixed. It was due to the “same as” feature allowing to mix coinages of different periods (greek and roman)
