Anyone here also collecting flags?

Anyone here also collecting flags?

Not actively only when I visit another country.

Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.

Worldwide collection

Same here! Unfortunately I have some from countries/places I haven't visited, since people thought I collected them all together, so I now I have to visit these places to “earn” the flag. Two of these are Alaska and Aruba, both from my sister. 😆

What material is  the flag that is being collected? Is it like a cloth label or lapel pin/badge

I have my flags by my coins, but here's a pic of them (the flags, not the coins). Not all flags are visible.

Nice colourful collection ngdawa

If anyone is interested, we can have a small swap but also exchange flags 🙂

Still invitation is opened 🙂

Thank you!

I have now also added Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia to the “collection”. 😊

I don't have a flag collection (apart from a small Nepalese flag I can't find right now), but I do enjoy playing this flag game:
https://world-geography-games.com/en/flags_world.html

Besides coins I love geometry. The avatar consists of each of the 35 hexominoes used precisely once. With the 5 large yellow shapes placed like this, the solution for tiling the remaining 30 hexominoes is unique.

Nice! I tried it out and got 25/25. 😊

Great! 👌 When you change the settings you can try all 197 flags in the game in one go.

I have a feeling that your Malaysia flag may not be the right one. Can you please tell me how many white and red stripes are there on the flag?

I have a feel too, all half the standard size (made of synthetic fabric). I don't collect them, but my company was running a competition among the staff some years ago and each team had to pick a country. After the competition, I collected them all and took them home. I still have them with me.

Here is a section of the picture showing the flag of Liberia (6 red and 5 white stripes) above the Malaysian flag with 7 red and 7 white stripes. Part of the top red line is behind the lid though, but when you look carefully at the blue part with the crescent and the 14-pointed star then you can see the red top line must be there, just as it should be. Fun fact: Malaysia was the first country ever to issue a 14-sided coin, a non-circulating commemorative coin.
The green Libyan flag is outdated though, it was chosen by Muammar Gaddafi, but I like it, so I imagine I would keep it up as well.

That is the correct current Malaysia flag. Thanks for sharing.

Everyone talking about flags, but the point is, I am looking for someone for a swap, also with flags haha

Not for a swap but as a gift for you to print on a piece of paper:

I once created my own little collection of self made drawings of some flags tiled with polyominoes. Left is the most complex flag I created, the flag of Cuba, that is supposed to have a 2:1 ratio. Mine does indeed, with a 38x76 frame. It is tiled with 361 out of the 363 octominoes without a hole (shapes made with 8 orthogonally adjacent squares). The 2 remaining ones I used for writing ‘Flag of Cuba’.

I also like my flag of Scotland in a 21x35 frame with the required 3:5 ratio, made with 105 out of the 108 heptominoes (shapes made with 7 squares), the remaining 3 I used to write ‘Flag of Scotland’.

The flag of Sealand has a 2:3 ratio, I created it with the 35 hexominoes plus one extra hexomino used twice in a 12x18 frame. The shape used twice is the appropriate ‘staircase’ piece in the upper left and in the lower right corners.

Besides coins I love geometry. The avatar consists of each of the 35 hexominoes used precisely once. With the 5 large yellow shapes placed like this, the solution for tiling the remaining 30 hexominoes is unique.

I haven't counted them, but the last one is white, so at least that is correct. 😜 (In the game linked above, the last stripe was red.)

You are correct to say that the last one is white stripe. It should be 14 red and white stripes and 14-point star. If you have one that is showing 13, then it is pre 1974. The 13 stripes each represent one State that made up the country. On 01.02.1974, it created the Federal Territory and as such the star was amended and the extra stripe was added too. I have the flag (fabric) but it was the old one.

I will try to remember to count the stripes when I get home, lol! I didn't think about it when I bought it.

If you have the Indonesian flag, turn it upside down, then you get the national flag of Poland.

I've been in Poland but didn't find a flag there. I have Monaco since before, and it's basically the same as Indonesia.

I checked, and it had 14 stripes and 14 rays. 👍🇲🇾

I carried this flag all over many miles of trails in Southern Appalachia. I have never been to Scotland, but it’s my heritage. My friend gave me this flag in the middle of a backpacking trip, he got it while in Scotland.

Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins

So many wonderful flags, thank you guys, hope more people will also put some pictures or informations. Also this is very inspiring to continue to collect flags

Another idea: look for banknotes with flags in the actual colors. I had a look in my modest collection.

From the Dominican Republic and Ecuador I have one showing the Coat of Arms with colors of the flag, not sure if that should count:

Romania has one with the flag inside the shape of the country:

Besides those, I just found 2 others notes, one with a coat of arms that contains the flag and a Russian note being the only one in my collection showing a real flag:
