Yes it is an interesting coin and I have got one on order. I will add the coin to Numista soon and will post up pics of an actual coin when I get it.

I finally got the chance to add the new $5 heritage coin. I have been in the middle of moving house so it has been difficult to keep up with the latest releases.

Nice coin Mike.

It says non-circulating coin on the page you created. However, the news article mentions this will be considered legal tender.

Have a nice hive change, I hope with a lot of space for your hobby, and enjoy your life happily ever after.

Best regards

Yes it is Non-Circulating Legal Tender or NCLT for short. All coins produced by the Royal Australian Mint and the Perth Mint are legal tender. But would you buy this $5 face value coin for $30, (That was the retail price, but they are on ebay now for upwards of $150), and go into a shop and spend it at face value?

In theory you could but obviously you wouldn't. I expect if you tried you would get resistance from the shopkeeper as they never see coins like this in circulation. On the other hand if I was the shopkeeper and someone tried to spend one of these at face value I would snap their arm off. 😜

Thanks Ole - We have actually moved into a much smaller place, a one bedroom unit from a 5 bedroom house. However it has a nice extra utility room that I have managed to acquire as my coin collection space. I have a lot of organising to do though. From where I am sitting now I can see the Pacific Ocean.

Did you catch an F/A-18F from the RAAF?

Well spotted - It was the Pacific Airshow a couple of weeks ago and I had a front row seat from my balcony to see it all.

On the left at the waterline, looks like a drone to me?

Slightly larger than a drone, it is a RAAF F/A 18F Fighter plane.
