Hello,

For Sarre Mark 1947, banknote are in Mark whatever the value but in our list of values we go from Mark for unit and Marks for multiples.

So why don't we use Mark in the list of value instead of Marks.

Hi.

We use french and english plural forms for face values, it was already extensively discussed on the forum I believe

In the case of Saarland, it is German that should be used for the Saarland Mark - the plural of ‘Mark’ is also ‘Mark’.

Aidan.

Given the recent reversal of policy on using the real names for issuers, we should continue to demand the usage of real names for currencies and people. Despite being told that complaining wouldn't make any difference, it clearly did.

In english both Mark and Marks are accepted as plural form (https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/Deutsche_Mark). In german Marks sounds ridiculous. So why not settle on the version that works in both?

And just as a matter of consistency, do we then also change to Deutsche Marks and Reichsmarks? Or German Marks and Empire Marks? 🤣

As for the use of French plural, may I add that when you look at the notes, it, for example, says CINQUANTE MARK and not MARKS

I do not see mocking as constructive…

Exactly like if I asked you if as a matter of consistency, would you replace “Germany” issuer by “Deutschland”?

Fair enough 🙏 but I'll stick to the point.

As for the issuer, whatever convention is chosen, as long as its consistent. There would certainly be an argument for having both original language and translation - I don't know whether that's also something already being discussed.

Coming back to the currency, it just seems very odd to have one small series with a different convention when there are hundreds of coins and notes of (roughly speaking) the same currency which are treated differently - especially as the origin of the difference is not apparent from the notes themselves.

Unfortunately the new “Denominations” database is still full of inconsistencies indeed; it takes a huge work to navigate our thousands of currencies with dozens of thousands of denominations in it (and we do not check only names but also relative value, etc)

To be honest I don't remenber have read of participate to a thread speaking about this "Mark/Marks  but fine for me.

I'm just a bit surprise that France that issues a note of 50 Francs will issue the same year a note of 50 Mark without good reason, but again I came across this by the artist not by the denomination so I maybe wrong.

Well, less and less thanks to new features like the list of values.
