Circular cropping for coins and medals

Hi,

I've recently joined this site and have been adding to the catalogue. I've been advised that I need to crop my images into circular ones for use on the site.

I've tried downloading Paintshop Pro as advised, but I can't find a tool anywhere that will crop to circles, and none of the online videos seem to be compatible with the version I've downloaded!

Could anyone provide me with an idiot's guide to doing this please? I'm not completely useless with technology, but I'm bamboozled by these photo websites.

Is there an easy way to do this?

Many thanks

Simon

Hello. Welcome to Numista!

There's various ways to do this easily.  MS Paint (Win 11) has a remove background function now.  The program paint.net (free web download or purchased through app store) has an easy crop circle feature.  This site https://pixlr.com/remove-background/ also will remove backgrounds.  You can also post them on the forum and ask for help.  There are many forum posts on the subject.

Do you have an example?

Thanks - the Photoscape one is really easy!

Cheers!

It has a rotation tool as well, in the resize pull down list.

There's a guide for Paint here on the forum as well:

An easier way is to use Powerpoint. Its functionalities for managing images allow also to eliminate the background from round shapes

Reminder

colorless is NOT a color

with an image in png format the colorless background will be transparent on the support to which it will be inserted

in jpg format the colorless background (without color) will be either white or black depending on the support

in the catalog the images must be in jpg format and the background in PLAIN white COLOR

Lately, I've been using https://crop-circle.imageonline.co/. It generates a png that you can then convert to a jpg with something like xnview.
