Portugal : shops and swaps?

Hello all,

I’ll be visiting portugal this April. I haven’t made specific plans as yet, so far just booked the flight to lisbon. Most likely will travel the northern half of the country over around 10 days.

im looking to fill gaps in my modern pre and post euro collection and also potentially dip my toe into older Portuguese and perhaps Portuguese India coinage.

So I’m looking to ask two questions; firstly would anyone like to swap in person? I have modern Indian, Canadian and some world coins to swap. I’m of course looking for portuguese coins, but also anything else from my world want list. If nothing else, we can meet and chat over coffee and/or a couple of drinks

secondly, would you recommend any shops and numismatic markets that would be worth going to In Lisbon or elsewhere?

feel free to post here or message me in private

Cheers!

Hello

I live in the south, in Algarve if you would like we can drink a coffe and swap some coins.

Best regards

Carlos

Hi,

I can recommend the Feira da Ladra flea market in Lisbon, Tuesday and Saturday.

Quite a few dealers having mainly pre Euro Portuguese and all the colonies, mainly the more common coins

but every dealer also had his little treasures, if you ask. Remember to bring cash, no credit cards there.

Not sure about the price level, I thought it was quite good prices for me and I was able to close many gaps.

Purchased a few rarer coins from a little shop named Sousa Marques ( you can google it), near the famous

elevator Santa Justa. Nice people, gave me good discount on their marked prices in the end.

And last but not least, you can buy current Portuguese Euros and the latest commemoratives ( many at face value) from the Portuguese mint INCM.pt (switch to English at the bottom of the page),

who have three shops across Lisbon + one in Coimbra and Porto. Also lots of nice info flyers on previous coins to take away for free

Best wishes

in the end everything will be good - if it's not good, then it's not the end...

Thanks Bavariat, lots of information to process here :)

Hello,

Regarding some swaps in you visit, if you see something that may interest you in my Sawp List, just send me a PM so I can check if it available (since i´ve being a little away from swaps as per the troubles with our border-control - it´s always very difficult for me to take the coins back if they get into their hands).

If so, and since I work in Lisbon Airport, it may be that we can do some trading (I thought that I could see the coins “that may interest” you but I can´t figure out how).

Safe travels,

Hi,

Yes that works! I'll check your list. I'll be travelling northwards from lisbon. In Lisbon for a few days, then on to Coimbra, Aveiro and Finally porto

Just returned from PT, bought a few nice coins from this shop. In the center, you'll find a lot of portuguese staff there.

Thanks very much for the recommendation!
