Did Soviet Commemorative Rouble coins circulate ?

Hello

I hope someone can help me out with this question I have been asking myself  .

On Numista many  commemorative 1 ,3 and 5 Rouble coins from the USSR are marked as  circulating commemoratives.

I find this odd since the commemorative 1 Rouble coins are much larger than the normal circulating  ones, and because there are no regular circulating 3 and 5 Rouble coins .

I have many such coins in my collection and all but 3 ( a 1965 20 years victory  , 1967 50 years of the revolution and  1970 100 years Lenin ) show no signs of wear .

From my small sample size , to me It appears that at least these three  were actually issued in to circulation - but the rest were not never put in to circulation .These later coins also have drastically smaller mintage figures than the  3 mentioned previously .

Which begs the question - were the commemorative 1 , 3,5 Roubles of the 1970-90s ever put in to circulation ?

If not - then why are they marked down as such in the catalogue ?

They did, though while those from the 70s were very common, the later ones were much harder to come by. A lot of people collected them. I remember when the first of the Monuments series 5 Roubles were released in 1988, my mom came home with all 3 of them. Of course, they went straight into my collection. Back then, 15 Roubles was quite a bit of money, too. Average monthly salary wasn't much higher than 200. I can also tell you that cashiers hated them for how bulky they were and because there was no register for them, so they would often try to get rid of them asap.
