Morgan Dollar

Excuse my ignorance - I don't understand all the fuss about that coin. There are so many nicer coins worldwide and every now and then somebody talks about the “Morgan”.

Any rational explanation?

I understand the feeling. I think it's because most are affordable in high grade. That's quite unlike the Seated Liberty type, which is in the hundreds of dollars even for a “common” date in low grade.

Many also stack the Morgans for their silver content. I noticed that an eBay auctioneer I used to follow often sold Morgan dollars in lots of 10. Well, they would almost immediately get to a CAN$260 bid, and in the closing moments, a week later, just increase by only $20 or $30…

I think it's simple, it's a very nice design, and a satisfyingly large silver coin, and as mentioned earlier, you can get a very nice example for every little. For example I paid £15 for a 1888 Morgan dollar in really nice condition, for a similar sized and aged coin from anywhere else would be a vastly large price!
