Belgium 50 centimes 1965 dutch text

Hi all,

I have this coin from 1965. For me it has all the specifications of the early km#145 but numista lists the 1965 under the km#149.1.

Legend is clearly far from rim as i have several 1970+ coins to compare it with.

Any thoughts ?

new variety?

The position of the legend is not mentioned in the SCWC.

The only characteristic difference should be the size of the head (which in reality doesn't make any difference from one Belgian to another) and furthermore the SCWC was wrong in its explanations whether for the French version or the Dutch version (at least on my 46th ed. 2018).
In any case, your coin is indeed a “little head”

Personally I find the differentiation of these coins a bit forced.  The switch from small head to big head happened in 1980, although you still had small heads up to 1982. But it is one of those coins where you find a lot of variants anyway. And that is how I see it: just a coin with a lot of possible variants, most of them only visible in comparison and under magnification.  In Belgium catalogues you see Morin separating them according to ruler (two kings), and Laurens in 4 types according to the head size and lettering (fine, large). Take your pick ;-)

Here's an overview I once made:
