Hi everyone,

Im thinking of starting a small coin shop.

Not in real life but online. Has anyone done this?

I am trying to let the hobby pay for itself, and maybe even make some money doing it.

I have no idea where to start, where you can make free or very cheap ecommerce platforms etc.

All tips are welcome!!

I had this going for a year or so on eBay and even became a top rated seller in the later months. I purchased large banknote lots and sold anything that I didn’t want in my collection. It ended up working out for a short while but when I ended up selling everything in multiple lots, it became more of a hassle than the original excitement of getting new pieces. I did however turn a profit most of the time.

I recommend it if you don’t get bored of seeing a lot of the same pieces and listing each individual note or small lot.

That is a good idea.

I will try eBay and see what it brings (after i of course purchase a lot of coins)!

Good luck on your venture! Coins will likely be more rewarding than banknotes since they are more commonly collected.

Thanks!

honestly selling on the subreddits r/coinsales and r/pmsforsale is the best no fee and a lot of people look there. Even though you are in the Netherlands I am sure there is enough europeans there for it to be worth you putting stuff up for sale there

Doesn't Ebay have an age limit?

I have had many friends bypass that

There is a system to them but some of the best deals are on there pms for sale is mainly for if you want to sell stuff close to melt price whereas the other one is for numismatic purchases

There also is instagram where you can just post your collection and get to following some like minded collectors. Then you can make a for sale post and there are people who will buy your stuff. You then through direct message information get Payed.

Also the traditional coin show stall never hurt, if you have the means to set it up.

Thanks all for the suggestions!

We wanted to let you know that your eBay account has been permanently suspended because of activity that we believe was putting the eBay community at risk. We understand that this must be frustrating, but this decision was not made lightly and it’s important that we keep our marketplace safe for everyone.

What the hell does this mean?

It means something that you did set off the bot. just make a new account I assume. I have no clue why it would.

Can be anything, from someone who used to live at your address not being in good standing with eBay, you didn't return calls from them asking about your merch or the verification of your personal information or if you made a new account and started with a huge product list etc.(their bot that auto-bans new accounts for bad actors is complete trash). Good luck I heard they are not very good over the phone.

Ill start a different thread about this eBay adventure..

Maybe it can help someone in the future.

*inspecting a Roman mintmark*

Maybe because you're under 18? Just a guess.

I filled in that im 24 yrs old.

*inspecting a Roman mintmark*

OMG i am so frustrated LOL

I can not call them from the Netherlands, you can only call them from the US or Canada..

I sent them an e-mail, hopefully this time this is not a robotic response…

We have suspended your account because it poses a risk to eBay and its community. Because eBay is an online platform with members who are also our customers, we must carefully weigh the risks involved when allowing users on our site. We regularly find accounts with a level of risk that is unacceptable and are therefore suspended.

We have decided that it is in our mutual interest that we each go our separate ways. We regret any inconvenience this may cause you.

Best regards,

eBay

*inspecting a Roman mintmark*

Maybe i just should start a new account and avoid the hassle.

*inspecting a Roman mintmark*

Well, other 2 mails sent also got the same response. Ill make a new acc.

Another ridiculous thing is i can not even close my account because it is suspended! Quite hilarious imo.

Once you are Dutch, I suggest try ‘Marktplaats’ first.

...you can run,  but you can't hide...

Al mee bezig :)!
