This coin weighs 9 grams and is 25mm in diameter.

This is simply a very common  40 year old coin with PMD. (Post Mint Damage). Nobody can possibly say exactly how this damage came to be.

Yep, harryg is right. This coin is worth exactly 1 Australian dollar.
