Interesting but confusing find.

Hey all.

I figured I’d try here and see if anyone had any guesses as I and the other dealer I got this from are a pretty confused. I met with another local coin dealer today to talk shop and trade some inventory. He had a bunch of Canadian coins he bought as part of an estate collection. I was doing a quick sort and came across an exceptionally bright 2006 Denver minted Colorado State quarter. No big deal, right? It has some signs of circulation but it just looked different, almost like a modern Canadian Quarter. I grabbed it and it felt just like I was holding a silver quarter and after checking the side it looked like a silver quarter. That furthered my curiosity, so I tried a magnet and got no attraction. I weighed it and it weighs what a silver quarter should weigh. I checked for signs of post mint work IE platting, etc and nadda. I looked to see if I could find anything online about a planchet error by the mint that year and nadda. Thoughts?

Proof quarter

That would make sense, except it’s minted in Denver… or was minted with. Denver’s plates.

Definitely not a proof.  Looks plated especially the “flat” area above the mountains.  What is the thickness?

Diameter & thickness are up to spec.

Show us the weight, diameter, and thickness on an accurate scale and with your calipers.

If it were silver plated it would require only 0.06mm of silver per side to go from 5.67g to 6.25g.  Thickness is not a good indicator.

Yes, 2 dealers who don't know what they are dealing with.

Yup a plated quarter, looks to be plated after circulating
