Australia 10 shillings Sheehan/McFarlane (1939-41) black signature, last prefix

Hi all,

Does anyone know the first and last prefixes for the Australia 10 shillings Sheehan/McFarlane (1939-41) with black signatures (as opposed to 1939 orange signatures)?

I have tried searching on the web, but no luck so far - only orange signature variety comes up in searches (last prefix F/24)

Pick 25a

Thanks

Your question is a bit confusing b/c Sheehan/McFarlane P-25a only have orange signatures. The last prefix (& change over) is F/24 for P-25a.

The first prefix for Armitage/McFarlane (P-25b) is F/24 and their signatures are black.  The last prefix for Armitage McFarlane is G/84

The first & last signature for the Coombs/Watt (P-25c) sign combo is: G/85 & A/74 (likely full run prefixes due to their relatively low premiums)

- I often find this to be the case, especially when the market cools down.  Only (or mostly) serious collectors go for these change-over (tough) prefixes & they typically come out when the market heats up.  I bought my F/24 when things heated up & really paid for it!

I got this prefix change over info from coinsandaustralia.com HERE.

On the subject of pre-decimal Australian notes, I have found it tough to source any ONE Pound (P-26d) with the Coombs Wilson (last) signature combo (any prefix) in original UNC.

Thanks a ton for the detailed info and yes, I could have framed the query a bit better.

The info really helps.

Unlike the stock market where we have an index to track market trends, I've often wondered how trends in the collectors market are tracked. Is it simply a case of a flood of a particular variety of note means it's a down trend, hence lower prices due to the greater availability?  There are no trend indexes or other numerical indicators.

Or, perhaps pick a note you're interested in, hol around and watch how prices change with time?

Can't think of anything else.

Well, here are two well known references that provide contradictory information then.

Numista states  here that P25.a is the black signatures of Sheehan/McFarlane.

PMG on the otherhand, through this graded note, states in fact they are orange.

To make matters more confusing, PMG states here, that the Sheehan/McFarlane black signature notes are 25.b, while Numista lists this same variety as P25.b Armitage/McFarlane.

Seeing that Numista does not address the orange signature variety (if PMG are to be believed) , it would be a good opportunity to update Numista's data.
