Bop Bonds - Exonumia or Banknotes?

1 post • viewed 95 times

I have several “Bop Bonds” in my collection issued by the defunct Government of Bophuthatswana, a former “bantustan” of South Africa. Most of these unrecognised countries simply used South African Rands but Bophuthatswana issued annual bonds that could be spent and traded within the territory and accrued interest, as a way of raising money.

It doesn’t look like Numista has these items in the catalogue yet but I’m a little confused about where to add them manually. They’re not banknotes per se, but they were very much used in that vein by some. Bophuthatswana did mint Some non-circulating commemorative coins in a local currency that was never used, and these are placed in Coins rather than Exonumia.

My only other reference point is the emergency Australes issued by Argentinian provinces in the 1980s.

Where does everyone think I should place these promissory notes?
