Why are a lot of coins listed under tokens from the German states/cities when they were in fact actual currency even if they were issued as emergency currency they were still actual coinage of that era?!!!!!
They were emergency coinage that temporarily replaced the coins of the country but also they were coins that were locally issued by the town mayor etc...so they are tokens representing currency in a way.
As I understand, the Notgeld issue "coins" that are listed in the token section are issued by companies or public utilities. Those coins issued by cities should be listed in the coin section.
Quote: tony_k_1965Lets say I had "tokens from Munster could these have been used to purchase items from say Cassel or other cities within the Germany states?
great question, would like to know?
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!
