Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask if anyone has actually seen the Norwegian 100 kroner banknote from 2023 and 200 kroner from 2022. So far, I have only seen the older banknotes dated 2016 everywhere (plus other denominations dated 2017-2019 of course). I found the only mention about the new issues in numista catalogue, but was not able to procure a single image of them on the internet.  Is there anyone who has actually come across these banknotes?

Thanks in advance for your replies

What I have found of info is According to Norges Bank, 21,200,000 200NOK banknotes have been printed in 2022. But it is unknown what year they were printed with.

Thanks for the information,

Could you please include the link or tell me when this statement was published? I went through all the press releases by Norges bank until 2021 and have not found any such information, but maybe I was not looking the right way:) On the contrary, I have found articles from October 2022 informing about planned issue of new 500 kroner (with a new date and signature), which apparently still have not appeared.

Thank you very much

Regarding the production numbers of Norwegian banknotes here is the link:

https://www.norges-bank.no/en/topics/Statistics/notes-coins-statistics/

The information is on table 11.

The statistics on notes and coins is published by Norges Bank once a year. The Norwegian language version usually in February. The English language version is either not published (IIRC 2021 and 2022 – at least I never saw it; perhaps I  missed it; I check Norges Bank only occasionally) or days, weeks, months later. This year, the English version (which has the same figures as the Norwegian one) was published in late June 2024.

More importantly, Norges Bank revised the annual statement. In the February 1, 2024 edition they stated 21.201.000 100kr were printed in 2023. The new, updated version gives this number for the 500 kr note.

Thanks for the link and all the information. It is interesting that the bank changed the 2023 figures in such a way, given that the banknotes in question should have already been produced by that time.

It still confuses me that images of these new banknotes still have not appeared on the internet. Even in a largely cashless country as Norway, I would expect that some collector would put their photo on the internet or that someone would try to sell them on ebay. Of course, they could have been printed with the old date/signature, but it would not make much sense since the new governor has already announced her signature for the new banknotes almost 2 years ago. Or maybe the bank had produced the banknotes, but has not put them into circulation yet.

Just because a note is printed doesn't mean it has to be issued, especially if there is little demand for it. It could be parked in a safe for many years to come.

Of course. Oddly, I was not able to find the English article again, so here are at least two Norwegian ones on the topic (their content is pretty much the same). I will send the other link as soon as I find the article.

Sentralbanksjefen signerte sin første pengeseddel – Dagsavisen

Sentralbanksjefen signerte sin første pengeseddel (bt.no)

The only relevant information the articles contain about new banknotes is that the Norges bank governor had signed her first banknote on 4th October 2022 and that the bank “will issue new 500 kroner which will bear her signature,” without specifying the date or anything else (the rest of the article only tells that Wolden Bache is the first female governor of the Norges bank and what is the percentage of cash payments in Norway).

Thanks for the two links 👍
