I recently got these two Thai banknotes from my friend and I am trying to add them to my collection/swap list, but I am unsure under which Reference sub-number should I list them.
There are 9 different options here on Numista N#204729
There are only P#137a and b, everything else was made up by someone. They should be removed. We can't simply pull references out of our asses just because no new ones are being given out from a certain publisher.
Fortunately, someone did put this out of their asses and come up with P137d on this site, and I 100% support this way of references. There are clearly 6 varieties for this series, and for simplicity, it should have 137a to 137f, and not 137a, 137b(1), 137b(2) and so on. How stupid is that when clearly there is a much simpler way. Every variety should have its own reference number to identify the note.
When a reference number doesn't exist, it doesn't exist. Is that so hard to understand? You can still describe the difference in the year line comments but you don't simply come up with your own numbers and put it under Pick.
Just bumping this in case there is someone who will be able to cut this Gordian knot. 😃
Regarding the 100-baht Rama X note. The original was released in 2018 with pick P-137a. Around 2019 a new version was released with an updated criminal code on the back which was why it was given the number 137b. The signatures are the same on 137a and b. Now the signature that you have are the 4th set of signatures for note 137b which is why some collectors use 137b.4. Now if you just changed the letter for each version, your notes would technically be 137e (as you have the fifth overall version of the note). On the Numista page, after 137b.2, the referee allowed a switch to changing the letter which does not make any sense. On the the Numista page the notes you have are listed as 137d. There are some people who are personally insulted by people's attempts at keeping the pick number system going. I find it very helpful despite some of the inconsistencies. There are now 6 versions of these 100-baht notes. There will be a 7th version soon as there is a new Finance Minister, and we are awaiting the new notes. Banknote Museum has good examples photos of each version. If you want further example photos, please send me a private message, as I have examples of about 90% of every prefix used, I also have very accurate information on prefixes used on this note if you would like that information.

The พ on the one note is a production extra or overrun. If the letter was “S”, that is a replacement note. From what is on the numista page, your notes are 137d and no other choice.
Its unfortunate that the system remains confusing & it may give some collectors the impression that the system is broken (or arbitrary) even though the Pick # system was anything but. As blue-m & ahkai put it -it may have been flawed but it wasn't completely impefect.
I don't think the system - to add another number (when a new set of signatures appear) such as P-137b2 is the best way to go. Instead, the next new signature should be P-137c. I get the feeling that even PMG doesn't understand (or hasn't adopted a consisted system). Look at these 2 examples of P-137b:
P-137b2 with Uttama Saowanayon (US) signature (but PMG just lists it as P-137b):
P-137b3 (or P-137c here) with Predee Daochai (PD) signature (but PMG just lists it as P-137b). This isn't helpful at all because this signature variation lasted for 3 prefixes & is not as easy to obtain as the rest:
I bought this note poorly labelled as such & if I had loonie for each time I have seen a PMG note mis-or poorly labelled I'd surely be a rich man!
I agree with Peter that it would be much better to keep the P-system & add a new (letter) at the end of the P#__ (or P-137a to P-137e) & this should be attributed to each new signature variation + the revised (long/short) penal code versions. Any time there is a design change a new letter should be attributed to the new version. That has been the way it has been done forever- on all Bank of Canada notes so I cannot see why they cannot keep the same system for Thai & other nations.
