Exonumia or coin?

3 posts • viewed 60 times

I have come across an unusual item that I have no clue what it could be.  It appears to be made of copper and has a diameter of just 10 mm.  It is so light that it does not register any weight on a scale therefore it is under 1 gram.  It has a thickness of about 1 mm.  There are symbols on both sides as shown in the pictures attached.  The U.S. dime is displayed to give an additional sense of size.

Does anyone have a clue what this unusual piece could be?

JLHare,

Thanks! You were spot on!  This is the first cash coin of the Kingdom of Travancore I've encountered.  As a matter of fact I've never heard of that kingdom until now.  Thanks also for the education.
