Hammered Copper/Bronze Coin identification [solved]

7 posts • viewed 85 times

I have just found a hammered bronze/copper coin in a bag of modern coins recently purchased here in Kent, UK.  Can anyone help with identification?

I've looked through most examples of British coins of the same metal content and size, but can't find anything similar, so it may be from another country.

At its widest it's 21mm.  Inner circle is 13.5 - outer edge to outer edge, on both sides.

Obverse is clearly a draped monarch or ruler's bust with some form of headdress encircled by text.  Above the head is a 7 spot mint mark shaped like a daisy.  Text clockwise from the top appears to be: HANN?KR  AV  WINGKELIN.NV (approx.)

Reverse (↑↑) has a central pattern which appears to be a trefoil with an inverted triangle. Above is a 7 spot mint mark shaped like a daisy.   Inside the trefoil is a cross at the top with a semi circle line underneath.  Text clockwise from the top appears to be:  GOTT?LL?IND  ERL * ? I (approx.).

Hope someone can help

Looks like a nuremberg counter token

There are thousands of types, the lettering matches some words like “GOTTES”

An example, very different of course, but might help in the search
