A 2024 variant of this exists?? [solved]

Discussion about Türkiye • 5 Lira (Centenary of the Republic of Türkiye)

8 posts • viewed 123 times

Hello, this is my first ever discussion i'm ever about to post so i'm sorry if it's a useless one, but is it true that a “2024” version of this coin exists? I know that the Darphane has made a normal 5 lira coin for circulation from this year, but apparently %1.3 of the collectors (and a couple of swap users) have a 2024 version of this commemorative coin, i want to know, does it really exist or is it being confused with the normal circulating 5 lira coin from 2024? Thank you so much for the answers in advance :)

Hi,

welcome to numista.

Your question is completely valid, since a commemorative coin seldom is minted over more than one year, so you might be right, that it's a user error!

Normally the referee should have asked for an image of the 2024 coin before adding the year line, but maybe he did NOT, and we have an error. If you have the name of the referee for Turkey, then ask him. @Jarcek

It would be easy to make the identification error:

Edit:

I found this on internet, and that coin was definitely a ONE year type, so numista is wrong,

Thank you so much for your response - Yeah as far as I know in Türkiye there was only the 100 000 lira commemorative coin that was minted for more than a year. 99-2000.

yeah I often hunt for coins in change and look at the news from Darphane and I initially didn’t confirm a 2024 version existed, aside from this my best guess at that time was someone mixed up the general circulating one with this one 😅 then i guess no coin errors/stamp errors have been confirmed of this yet? (sometimes it happens that a coin could have a reverse from.. for example 2016 but the design in the back is from 2015 right?) so i also thought maybe someone found an error coin)

oh i'll try to if i can, he is a referee of my country here? :)

Yes, the commemorative coin from 2023 become a standard circulation coin in 2024 but the “100” on the bottom of obverse dissapeared on the circulation version… so this is quite significant difference and new page was created in Numista. Probably, before creation of the new page,  someone simply added the circulation version as a new yearline only. Users of 2024 yearline should be moved to new page, I guess.

Oh, I guess that explains it. These coins' mintages apparently officially started by June 10, 2024 (from the news articles + the Resmi Gazete bulletin) and I guess until the creation of the new variant it was added there for a brief moment.

Either way thank you both so much for the clarifications! 😄

Don't forget to make the CR to have the 2024 line deleted.
