I have found a possibility to download the KM world coins catalogs from 1601-2000 for free.
I don't know whether it's legal or not, but for low budget collectors it's an alternative.

This is not legal. Krause catalogs are copyrighted. However, they are available on line (without coin values) at Numismaster.com: Coins & Paper money]
