Hello everyone, i am trying to add the regional 1930/1932 and 1934 regional issues of Réis that i own. On the guidelines i am required to have the proper issuer, in this case the “Thesouro do Estado do Reio Grande do Sul”.

These notes are part of “Vargas era”, the first ones from 1930 were essentially worked as money and bonds on a potential civil war due to the succesful Vargas coup in the same year, the 1932s are tied to the already existing series of notes here in the site (Ex: N#220549) and the 1934 ones were also due to ongoing civil conflicts.

You can see some more of these notes here: http://www.banknote.ws/COLLECTION/countries/AME/BRA/BRA-LOC.htm#REPUBL

They were issued in only in my home state and command a decent rarety.

Theres are different series of these as explained before. Can the admins please add this Issuer Authority like they did for the Treasury of the State of São Paulo? Link below for additional example.

Hopefully you guys can help me out

Hello there.
yes, we need to upvote this topic so that more people can see it, and admins can add those issuers to Numista.

i will also try to contact them by myself and resend this message, so maybe it can help.

My question is : is it really an issuing entity we need or a sub issuer of Brazil for the State itself ?

It is a sub-issuer, exactly like: N#220549.

Neither the São Paulo insurrectionists in 1932 (the above banknote) nor Vargas claimed to want a independent nation, both wanted control over Brazil and assumed they had legitimacy of the national Treasury if successful (while initially only issuing state Treasury banknotes).

During the coup/revolution started by the Vargas movement in 1930, many states issued banknotes out of their state coffers due to chaotic nature of those years. The state of Rio Grande do Sul, being the homebase for Vargas, was the state that issued most of these banknotes. With series from 1930,31,32 and 32

OK, done

It's not really about if issuers wanted autonomy, it's more about where notes circulated
If they were local notes, they should have their own sub issuer
