I assume the date is the two numbers printed horizontally under the initial letters underlined (?).

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

Both printed by CBNC. However, the first print has a flaw with the serial number and as such the second print. I do not know what the serial numbers range for the first prints.

So, 44a has a flaw (number range unknown) and 44b is the corrected version (Y/N?)

No, all dates have 03 under the letters.

Yes, that's what was reported. Unfortunately I do not have details as to what the serial numbers range for P44a. It would be great if we have such info for collectors. The only way to find out if the serial numbers can be rubbed off, and if that's the case then you have a damaged note in your collection.

P/S... this is not recommended.

The year date is printed on the Coat of Arms for all issues.

Zambia P-44a has an ink problem with the serial numbers easily rubbed off. This was corrected for P-44b. Unless it is a split prefix, which I’m unaware of to date, P-44a has prefix EA and P-44b has prefix EB. Sometimes the details are in the prefix code!

According to a report, the first print of notes were only released briefly and was then withdrawn due to the serial number faults. The report also said that both the first and second prints have the same prefixes of EA03 to EC03. I have the P44 with EA03 and I got mine in February 2004 for less than US$0.20 and I do not believe mine is P44a. My note has a serial number of EA03 4534xxx.

If only we know the serial range for the first print.
