Wavy edges and similar appearances: how to assess? [solved]

I'm still learning a lot here!

I recently bought some UNC Gibraltar notes, they are paper and they have that cornerstone watermarked paper. Here is the top edge of the £10:

It has a kind of wavy edge to it. Is this possible with an UNC note, or would you assess it as AU?

I bought another two of these notes, the first is a 2016 like the above and the second is a 2010.

The 2016 has a wavy edge similar to the above note and the 2010 is quite a bit flatter.

So I am guessing this is just how the note is?

Happy New Your @Odd Job.

Don't get to worry about notes with such flaws. It could be due to the manufacturing process. The cutting Cup mark on top of the security thread is quite common, and that little dent is no big deal. Place the note on a protective plastic sleeve and gently flatten it with a flat-headed object. This may improve the appearance a bit. I have a few notes with such flaws too, but I still consider them as UNC.

As for those cutting cup marks, some dealers even placed the note on an iron to flatten them too, which is disappointing. I know some buyers are choosy and demand notes with no such flaws. I personally won't in case they place the note under a hot iron.

I also have some UNC notes with two horizontal lines (indented lines) running parallel across, end to end. I believe this was due to the manufacturing process too, as they have rollers running/holding the sheet of notes during the printing process. These are notes from Samoa and Hong Kong.

Thanks, I tend to grade these a bit harshly!

The seller is legit, a guy in Germany and I have now bought more than 50 notes from him and each was pristine. So I am guessing this is normal.

The cutting cup I know about, but these other waves are just ugly. I have put the notes in some plastic folders and I'll see how they turn out in a few months!

I forgot to mention this.

When buying from a dealer or from any one, it is always good to mention this: -

Please ensure all notes are in UNC condition, no teller flicks, no creases, no folds or any visible flaws.

Let the seller come back to you. If there were any flaws, they would tell, especially buying on eBay. This is the power of negative feedback, even though I have not given any seller one yet for more than 20 years.
