Think it's just someone using the site for reference as I can't see anyone from Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, Canada. There is one or two members close by but not there.
It'll be nice to message someone using te rarity index of 97 or something and saying I'll give you £3 for it and them to think its mega rare and expensive then for you to explain how it works and deflate their balloon ha
On a more serious note that's why the "rarity index" title should be changed to something more appropriate like members popularity index and switch the way it works so it's a higher number.
I think it is a nice addition and it should stay as it is, of course it is not something that you can use for exact rarity of a swap or a sale. You can´t really compare the number of minted coins on modern commermoratives that aren´t that hard to get hold of and often go to collectors, with coins of low mintages from lets say the 1700´s where probably more than half have been lost, destroyed etc...
Modern commemorative are almost always minted in limited numbers especially the ones from the Pacific Islands, so low mintages doesn´t mean rare; they might become rare but that will be sometime in the future.

The Numista rarity index also shows me that quite a few people own fake coins and have added them to the catalogue. Such as those 3 coins that are pretty much some of the most faked and yet there seems to be very high number of members owning this coin. I'm sure that some have entered the original coin but I find it rare that the other more common similar examples have a much higher rarity index.

Very true. I have the first one, with a personal note to it: "THIS IS A FAKE" - I knew it was when I got it, so I have no problems with that.
The Umberto complicates things, as it has a lot of fake versions, plus it has an official restrike from 1976.
The rarity index has zero relevance, absolutely nothing to do with reality outside of Numista. I have about 600 coins here with 97% rarity here, most of them are pretty "common". It is just nobody else on Numista seems to collect medieval Hungary, Bohemia, Transsylvania, etc... - I should not let myself fooled that I have an extremely rare collection.
It's wrong to think someone might see the rarity index, put it up on eBay for a ridiculous price then some new naive collector comes along and pays what they want for it, only to find out it's not even worth 1/4 of the price. :S
I have a Colnect account, which I don't use at all, and I can't remember why I logged in last month, and found out that they also have an "accuracy scale or rate" I can't remember exactly.
So is it something like our Rarity Index that they are also using?
